Job summary

FedEx Express is seeking a motivated Heavy Goods Vehicle Maintenance Technician for the Vehicle Maintenance Unit in Durham. 40-hour weeks with a 17:00–01:30 shift, offering a base pay of £21.70 per hour plus premiums for 19:00–22:00 and 22:00–06:00. You will complete service records, prepare for MOT testing, perform repairs, and ensure safe use of tools while maintaining housekeeping standards.

Qualifications

• All required licences or vocational training, including LGV C&E.
• City & Guilds Parts 1 & 2 or equivalent for commercial vehicle repairs.
• Ability to lift and manoeuvre heavy vehicle components.
• Experience in a similar maintenance role is desirable.
• Must hold a valid driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Complete service and inspection records as required.
• Prepare vehicles and trailers for annual MOT testing to first-time pass.
• Perform ad-hoc vehicle repairs and rectify defects.
• Ensure safe, correct use of all tools and equipment.
• Maintain good housekeeping and carry out other duties as required by management.

Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated individual to join the Engineering Team as a fully skilled Heavy Goods Vehicle Maintenance Technician based at our Vehicle Maintenance Unit in Durham.

Working hours: 40 per week

Shift: Monday - Friday, 17:00-01:30

Salary: Base pay £21.70 per hour. Premia paid for hours worked between 7pm - 10pm (£2.33 per hour), and 10pm - 6am (£2.82 per hour).

What are you going to be doing?

• Completion of signed service and inspection records
• Completion of defect reports and associated paperwork to comply with legal requirements.
• Prepare vehicles and trailers for annual MOT testing (to a standard to ensure 1st time pass)
• Perform ad-hoc vehicle repairs, investigating and rectifying vehicle defects.
• Ensuring the correct and effective safe use of all tools, plant and ancillary equipment
• Maintaining good housekeeping standards carrying out any other duty deemed reasonable by Management

What are we looking for?

• Fully skilled with applicable Licenses / Vocational Training (e.g., LGV C&E licence (class one)).
• City & Guilds parts 1 & 2 or equivalent in commercial vehicle repairs
• Knowledge of the use and operation of all automotive equipment and testing / troubleshooting equipment
• Ability to lift and manoeuvre Heavy Vehicle Components
• Experience with welding and basic D.C. electrical troubleshooting skills
• Must possess valid driving license
• Previous experience within a similar role
