Job Title: Vehicle and Machinery Manager (Senior Mechanic)

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Mechanic to support our operational division as the Vehicle and Machinery Manager. This role is tailored to maintain our company vehicles and agricultural/horticultural equipment.

This key position involves hands-on mechanical work and administrative tasks, overseeing a team member, and managing over 1,500 pieces of equipment and 70+ vehicles, including tractors, vans, trailers, ride-on mowers, hand tools, and waste containers.

You will be required to travel across the county to various depots or customer sites to ensure equipment is in optimal condition. Maintaining proactive maintenance schedules and coordinating external inspections or services, such as MOTs, will be essential.

The role demands a mechanically skilled individual capable of keeping our fleet and equipment operational, efficient, and compliant. Computer literacy is also necessary for effective asset management.

An essential requirement is a full UK driving license. Experience in agriculture or specialized mechanical fields is preferred.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage and collaborate with the Workshop Fitter and operations team to maintain and repair plant, equipment, and vehicles
  • Organize and perform maintenance and repairs to minimize downtime and ensure roadworthiness and legal compliance
  • Complete documentation to ensure legislative and company policy compliance
  • Liaise with contract managers for equipment procurement, disposal, or sale
  • Conduct preventative maintenance, inspections, routine servicing, and prepare vehicles for MOT testing, prioritizing health and safety
  • Assess resource needs and liaise with suppliers and clients to meet budgets and deadlines
Qualifications:
  • Management experience in a similar sector
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate maintenance schedules and handle unplanned repairs
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations in this sector
  • Understanding of vehicle, horticultural, and agricultural equipment
  • Ability to interpret task and data sheets related to vehicles and plant
  • Experience as an Agricultural Mechanical Technician or Plant Machinery Engineer is advantageous
