Job summary

NHS Lanarkshire is seeking a Harm Reduction Outreach Worker to join the pan-Lanarkshire team, delivering a van-based outreach service with BBV testing, needle exchange, and referrals to treatment.

The role focuses on hard-to-reach populations, public awareness, and education on harm reduction, working with a multidisciplinary team in a high-demand environment. Driving licence is required.

Qualifications

• SVQ III in healthcare, or working towards, or equivalent experience.
• Ability to work with people and as part of a multidisciplinary/agency team.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to carry out assigned patient care tasks effectively within a busy environment.
• Ability to work unsupervised.
• Actively participate in the Personal Development Plan process to fulfil the requirements of continuing professional development.
• Working knowledge of basic information technology.
• A driving licence is required; this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.

Responsibilities

• Assist in a wide service provision around harm minimisation, in the area of substance misuse which will include fixed site clinics and on an outreach capacity - occasionally out of hours as per service provision.
• Supply as required advice and information on locally based service provision and refer clients to the Outreach Co-ordinator/Worker for referral on to mainstream services.
• Carry out and record basic observations / assessment of patient need and to raise any concerns with the team.
• Bring to the attention of the Co-ordinator, any inadequacy in the system which may be to the detriment of the clients’ welfare and public safety
