Queen Square Recruitment is sourcing a seasoned Business Analyst to join a major utilities programme, focusing on Utilities and Energy Markets. The role bridges business requirements and technology solutions across market operations, trading processes, and regulatory initiatives.

The ideal candidate has substantial Utilities sector experience, strong knowledge of Electricity and Gas Markets, and hands-on experience with BPMN, Jira/Confluence, and Agile delivery.

Qualifications

  • Experience gathering and documenting business requirements from utility stakeholders.
  • Experience translating requirements into functional specs and user stories.
  • Knowledge of BPMN, Visio or Lucidchart for process modelling.

  • Gather, analyse, and document business requirements from utility stakeholders.
  • Translate requirements into detailed functional specifications.
  • Conduct gap analyses, impact assessments, and process mapping.
  • Support implementation and enhancement of utility market systems and processes.
  • Facilitate workshops and elicitation sessions with stakeholders.
  • Produce BRDs, FRDs, user stories, and test scenarios.
  • Collaborate with QA on UAT planning, execution, and defects.
  • Ensure compliance with energy market regulations and frameworks.
  • Support business process improvement and change management initiatives.

Business Analyst - Utilities Energy Markets

Reading (Hybrid/office-based - 3-5 days onsite)

We are seeking an experienced Business Analyst with strong Utilities and Energy Markets expertise to join a high-profile programme within the energy sector.

This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned BA who can bridge business requirements and technology solutions while working across complex market operations, trading processes, and regulatory initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Gather, analyse, and document business requirements from a range of utility stakeholders.
  • Translate business requirements into detailed functional specifications.
  • Conduct gap analysis, impact assessments, and process mapping activities.
  • Support the implementation and enhancement of utility market systems and processes.
  • Facilitate workshops, stakeholder meetings, and requirements elicitation sessions.
  • Produce high-quality project documentation including BRDs, FRDs, user stories, process flows, and test scenarios.
  • Collaborate with QA teams to support UAT planning, execution, and defect resolution.
  • Ensure compliance with energy market regulations, governance standards, and industry frameworks.
  • Support business process improvement and change management initiatives.
  • Proven Business Analyst experience within the Utilities or Energy sector.
  • Strong understanding of Electricity and Gas Markets.
  • Knowledge of Wholesale and Retail Energy Markets.
  • Experience working within Energy Trading and Market Operations environments.
  • Strong stakeholder management and requirements gathering skills.
  • Experience producing BRDs, FRDs, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Process modelling experience using BPMN, Visio, Lucidchart, or similar tools.
  • Agile/Scrum delivery experience.
  • Experience using Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps, or equivalent tools.
Mandatory Market Knowledge

Candidates must demonstrate experience across areas such as:

  • Day-Ahead Market (DAM)
  • Intraday Market (IDM)
  • Capacity Market
  • Ancillary Services
  • Energy Trading Lifecycle
  • Settlement Processes
  • Market Participants including Suppliers, Generators, Traders, DNOs/DSOs, TSOs, and Regulators
  • UK, European, North American, or APAC Energy Markets exposure.
  • Meter-to-Cash processes.
  • Market settlement systems.
  • Smart metering programmes.
  • Renewable energy and energy transition initiatives.
  • CBAP, CCBA, Agile BA, or BCS Business Analysis certifications.

Please note that previous Utilities domain experience with strong knowledge of Energy Markets, Trading, Market Operations, and Regulatory Processes is essential.
