Kirklees Metropolitan Council is hiring a Technical Officer for the Urban Traffic Control team in Kirklees. The role focuses on coordinating traffic signals, permits, and asset information to support safe highway operations.

Qualifications

• Support the recovery of costs for damage to traffic management equipment.
• Respond to apparatus enquiries and collate technical information.
• Maintain accurate records and support safe, compliant working practices.
• Respond to customer enquiries.

Kirklees Council is looking for an organised and dependable Technical Officer to join our Urban Traffic Control team. This varied role provides technical and administrative coordination for the traffic signals, variable message signs and wider traffic management technology that support the safe and efficient operation of the highway network.

Whilst this is a specialist highways team, previous traffic signals experience is not essential; what matters is your ability to manage information accurately, coordinate processes and provide a professional service to colleagues, contractors, customers and other stakeholders.

About The Role

Working within a specialist team, you'll support maintenance, street works, asset enquiries and financial processes. Your work will include:

• Helping to manage the traffic signals maintenance contractor and checking worksheets and invoices.
• Preparing street works permit applications and registering traffic signal switch-offs.
• Coordinating with Network Management colleagues where utility or other highway works may affect UTC assets.
• Supporting the recovery of costs for damage to traffic management equipment.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who can bring sound judgement, attention to detail and a practical approach to a busy service. Experience involving contractors, permits, technical records, invoices, asset information or customer enquiries would be helpful, but training will be provided.

You Should Have

• Good organisational and IT skills, including Microsoft Office and electronic record systems.
• The ability to check and present information accurately for different audiences.
• Clear communication and effective team-working skills.
• The ability to use your initiative and manage work with limited supervision.
• GCSEs in Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above, NVQ Level 2, or the ability to work at that level.
