Traffic management is changing. Advances in intelligent transport systems, real-time data, connected infrastructure and network monitoring are transforming how highway authorities manage increasingly complex transport networks.
At Kirklees Council, we're looking for a talented Senior Engineer to help drive that transformation. This is an opportunity to work across a diverse and complex highway network, supporting around 1,934km of roads and a network of 257 traffic signal sites, whilst helping to develop the next generation of Urban Traffic Control technology.
Working within our Urban Traffic Control team, you'll combine traditional traffic signal engineering with innovation and technology. From optimising existing signal networks and managing critical UTC assets to exploring new approaches to data-led traffic management, you'll help us deliver a smarter, more resilient, and more efficient highway network for the future. The team manages traffic signals, intelligent detection systems, traffic monitoring technology, communications infrastructure, and wider network management systems that support the safe and efficient movement of people and goods across the borough.
This is more than a traditional traffic signals role. It's an opportunity to influence how a forward-thinking Highway Authority uses technology, data, and innovation to meet the transport challenges of the future.
As a Senior Engineer within the Urban Traffic Control Team, you'll help manage and develop a specialist portfolio of traffic signals, UTC systems, intelligent detection systems, traffic monitoring technology and communications infrastructure.
You'll be involved in the design, operation, maintenance, renewal, and optimisation of traffic signals and associated technology, together with asset management, incident response, and the delivery of technology-led improvements across the highway network. Working closely with colleagues, regional partners and industry specialists, you'll help improve road safety, journey reliability and network performance whilst helping shape the future of Urban Traffic Control in Kirklees.
We're seeking an enthusiastic and technically minded engineer who can combine sound engineering judgement with a passion for innovation.
You should have:
Experience with MOVA, SCOOT, UTC systems, or other Intelligent Transport Systems would be advantageous.
