Job summary

Dambuster Studios in the UK studio invites a User Researcher to join our GamesLab team, helping shape play tests across multiple titles and genres. You will work with Senior User Researchers and Data Science to design, run, analyse, and report on studies to generate actionable insights.

We value curiosity, collaboration, and a passion for games. This role requires on-site presence at our city-centre studio with potential hybrid options and relocation support if needed.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of practical user research experience.

User Researcher

Dambuster Studios - creators of the number one BAFTA-nominated smash hit Dead Island 2 - has an exciting opportunity for a User Researcher to join our highly talented GamesLab team.

This is an exciting opportunity to grow your user research career in the games industry, work across multiple unreleased and unannounced titles and genres, and develop your practice with support from seasoned experts in a dedicated lab environment.

Please note:

  • We can only offer this role on a fully studio-based or hybrid basis. If hybrid, you must live within 50 miles of our studio or be willing to relocate to within 50 miles and be able to come into the studio three days per week as a minimum.
  • You will be required to be on site for the set-up and running of play tests.
Role Overview

We’re looking for someone curious, perceptive, and with a passion for gaming. Working closely with the Senior User Researchers and Data Science team, you will play a pivotal role in the design, implementation, and analysis of play tests across multiple titles. You will help shape study plans, facilitate play tests, analyse evidence, and produce actionable insights.

Responsibilities
  • Define, with support, the objectives and focus of each user test.
  • Own, with support, the day-to-day planning and delivery of defined qualitative and quantitative research studies, including moderating tests, observing users, analysing findings, and preparing reports.
  • Own the technical set-up and smooth running of research sessions, as well as proactive maintenance of the lab space and equipment.
  • Support the development and maintenance of our recruitment database.
  • Continue to develop research competencies through working with and learning from teammates.
  • Contribute to improvements in research tools, processes, and practice; stay current with games user research, accessibility, data protection, and relevant industry developments.
  • Act as a representative of the lab and a research champion to maintain positive relationships with internal and external teams.
Requirements
  • 2+ years of practical experience planning and conducting user research, using qualitative and quantitative methods in a professional, academic, or equivalent applied setting.
  • A passion for Video Games and the gaming industry.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport, establish credibility, and adapt communication across cultures.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Curiosity, creativity, and enjoyment of solving complex issues.
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Experience with survey design, user research, and user research theory and methodology (desirable)
  • Data analysis and visualisation experience (desirable)
  • Experience with PC gaming, video streaming and/ or editing (desirable)
