Job summary

University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a Salaried GP to support the transformation of urgent care across Poole and Bournemouth UTCs. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to assess and treat patients with urgent and minor illness, delivering high-quality primary care across two Urgent Treatment Centres.

Qualifications

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a Licence to Practise.
  • CCT in General Practice or CESR equivalent.
  • MRCGP or equivalent recognised qualification.
  • Fellowship of the Royal College of General Practitioners (FRCGP).
  • Additional postgraduate qualification relevant to Urgent or Emergency Care.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, investigate, diagnose, treat and safely manage patients presenting with urgent, undifferentiated illness and minor injury within the Urgent Treatment Centres.
  • Deliver high-quality urgent primary care across both Poole and Bournemouth Urgent Treatment Centres, supporting service resilience and equitable patient access.
  • Provide senior clinical decision-making, ensuring safe, effective and timely management of patients in accordance with national and local clinical guidance.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver coordinated patient-centred care.
  • Determine the most appropriate onward management for patients, including discharge with advice or referral to community/primary care services or escalation to secondary care.
  • Support the avoidance of unnecessary Emergency Department attendances and hospital admissions.
  • Contribute to maintaining patient flow through timely assessment, treatment and discharge planning.
  • Participate in clinical governance activities including audit, quality improvement, incident investigation and learning.
  • Work flexibly across both Urgent Treatment Centre sites to meet service demands.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will:

  • Support the avoidance of unnecessary Emergency Department attendances and hospital admissions by managing appropriate patients within the Urgent Treatment Centre.

  • Work flexibly across both Urgent Treatment Centre sites to meet service demands and support operational resilience.

Education, Qualifications and Special Training

  • Extended skills in musculoskeletal medicine, dermatology, ENT, ophthalmology or women's health.
  • Ability to interpret plain radiographs
