  • Prepare documentation for audits and regulatory requirements.

We are looking for an Underwriting Assistant to join our Underwriting team and provide operational and administrative support across an assigned book of business.

This is an entry-level opportunity for someone looking to build a career in specialty insurance and develop a strong foundation in underwriting. You will gain hands‑on exposure to the full policy lifecycle, from quote through to bind, policy issuance and mid‑term adjustments, while working closely with experienced underwriters across Relm’s specialist lines of business.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Support underwriters with the preparation and issuance of quotes, binders, policies and related documentation.
  • Ensure accurate and timely capture of underwriting and policy data within internal systems.
  • Maintain complete and accurate underwriting files and documentation across the assigned book of business.
  • Support underwriters in ensuring files meet internal compliance, risk and regulatory requirements, including responding to file audit requests.
  • Assist with policy lifecycle activities, including new business, renewals and mid‑term adjustments.
  • Participate in underwriting roundtables, team meetings and other forums, preparing supporting documentation, reports or data where required.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across Underwriting and the wider business to deliver team and business projects.
  • Support the continuous improvement of underwriting processes, with a particular focus on data, technology and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain compliance with internal underwriting guidelines, policies and applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Take ownership of ad‑hoc projects and additional responsibilities as required.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
  • A bachelor’s degree in Management, Insurance, Finance, Actuarial Science, Cyber Security or another relevant discipline.
  • A strong interest in developing a career within insurance and an eagerness to understand Relm’s specialty products and industry sectors.
  • Exceptional organisational and time‑management skills, with the ability to manage multiple and competing priorities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high‑quality work.
  • Strong numerical capability and the ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations.
  • Strong critical‑thinking, problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
  • The ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, collaborative and team‑oriented environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and authentically.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
  • The ability to analyse and manipulate data using Excel and/or Power BI, including tables, pivot tables and formulas such as VLOOKUP, IF and SUM.
  • A proactive mindset, strong work ethic and willingness to take ownership through to a successful outcome.
NICE TO HAVE
  • Previous internship or work experience within insurance, broking, financial services or another relevant industry.
  • An interest in pursuing a professional insurance qualification or designation, such as CPCU or AU.
  • An interest in emerging technologies and the innovative industries that form part of Relm’s core underwriting appetite.
  • An enthusiasm for using data and technology to improve processes and ways of working.
