Job summary

Sompo invites an experienced Underwriter to join its Downstream Energy team in London. You will support renewals and new business, underwriting profitable accounts, and provide data-driven insights to inform pricing and risk assessment.

In this role you will coordinate RMS modelling, present findings to stakeholders, mentor junior colleagues and ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and controls. Strong communication skills and 4+ years in insurance are essential.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of relevant experience in the Insurance industry.
• Deep knowledge of Downstream oil and gas industry and Energy Property market.
• Strong problem solving and decision making abilities.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Interpersonal skills and team-oriented approach.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Numerate with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Support renewals and review of new business for Downstream and Power accounts.
• Underwrite profitable business to secure retention on existing and new clients.
• Service the existing book: endorsements, market updates, meetings.
• Prepare information for underwriting: account pricing, engineering overviews, performance analysis.
• Coordinate RMS modelling with exposure analysis team per account and roll-ups.
• Attend client presentations and meetings with brokers and provide updates.
• Conduct energy market research ahead of key renewals.
• Ensure compliance with conduct risk, underwriting guidelines and controls.
• Mentor junior team members and oversee audit requirements.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Support the delivery of the underwriting business plan; assisting with renewals and review of new business for Downstream and Power accounts.
• Use expertise to select and underwrite profitable business to secure retention on existing and new clients.
• Servicing the existing book of business with regards to endorsement review, market updates and meetings.
• Review and presentation of data ahead of internal meetings with analysis of the key reportable metrics.
• Preparing information for underwriting purposes, specifically regarding account pricing, engineering overviews and account performance analysis
• Coordinating RMS modelling with exposure analysis team on an account basis and for roll ups - as well as speak with engineering department where required for further research.
• Attend client presentations and meetings with brokers – providing updates to the team.
• Performing Energy market research and client information ahead of key renewals.
• Demonstrate compliance with and evidencing of conduct risk requirements, underwriting guidelines and internal control requirements.
• Help educate and mentor more junior members of the team.
• Oversight of audit requirements, reporting and booking of policies.
• Ad-hoc tasks & projects as set by the team.

What You’ll Bring

• Relevant experience within Insurance Industry minimum 4 years.
• Possess in depth knowledge of the Downstream oil and gas industry and the policy structures and wordings used within the Energy Property market.
• Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a team-oriented approach
• Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced, challenging environment
• Numerate and an eye for detail
• Ability to organise efficiently and prioritsie workload.
• Comprehensive computer skills, including Microsoft Office Excel etc.
