Job summary

Sompo International Holdings Ltd. is seeking an Underwriter in the Downstream Energy team based in our London office. You will support renewals, review new business for Downstream and Power accounts, underwrite profitable business, and service the existing book with endorsements and market updates.

The role requires deep knowledge of the downstream oil and gas sector, strong communication, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment within a global insurer.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years of experience in the Insurance Industry.
• Deep knowledge of the Downstream oil and gas sector and Energy Property market.
• Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support the delivery of the underwriting business plan for Downstream and Power accounts.
• Underwrite profitable business to secure retention on clients.
• Manage endorsements, market updates and meetings for the existing book.
• Prepare information for underwriting, including pricing, engineering overviews and performance analysis.
• Coordinate RMS modelling with exposure analysis and engineering for research.
• Attend client presentations with brokers and provide updates to the team.
• Conduct Energy market research ahead of renewals.
• Ensure compliance with conduct risk, underwriting guidelines and internal controls.
• Mentor junior team members and oversee audit requirements.

What you’ll be doing:

• Support the delivery of the underwriting business plan; assisting with renewals and review of new business for Downstream and Power accounts.
• Use expertise to select and underwrite profitable business to secure retention on existing and new clients.
• Servicing the existing book of business with regards to endorsement review, market updates and meetings.
• Review and presentation of data ahead of internal meetings with analysis of the key reportable metrics.
• Preparing information for underwriting purposes, specifically regarding account pricing, engineering overviews and account performance analysis
• Coordinating RMS modelling with exposure analysis team on an account basis and for roll ups - as well as speak with engineering department where required for further research.
• Attend client presentations and meetings with brokers – providing updates to the team.
• Performing Energy market research and client information ahead of key renewals.
• Demonstrate compliance with and evidencing of conduct risk requirements, underwriting guidelines and internal control requirements.
• Help educate and mentor more junior members of the team.
• Oversight of audit requirements, reporting and booking of policies.
• Ad-hoc tasks & projects as set by the team.

What you’ll bring:

• Relevant experience within Insurance Industry minimum 4 years.
• Possess in depth knowledge of the Downstream oil and gas industry and the policy structures and wordings used within the Energy Property market.
• Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a team-oriented approach
• Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced, challenging environment
• Numerate and an eye for detail
• Ability to organise efficiently and prioritsie workload.
• Comprehensive computer skills, including Microsoft Office Excel etc.
