Arch Insurance (UK) Limited is seeking an underwriter to deliver efficient case underwriting and ensure decisions align with guidelines and regulatory requirements.

You will work with brokers and internal stakeholders to support divisional strategy, financial plans and personal objectives, while maintaining strong relationships with regional offices.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Commercial Insurance is preferred.
  • Strong negotiation and selling capabilities are essential.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills are required.
  • Good risk perception and ability to price risk appropriately.
  • Proven track record in building and maintaining trading relationships.
  • Consistently achieving business targets and objectives.
  • Experience working across functions and matrix organisations.
  • Demonstrated operational efficiency in underwriting processes.
  • Able to adopt standard work and QA procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Manage own cases (renewal and/or new business) within appetite and authority.
  • Handle referrals for less experienced underwriters/apprentices.
  • Maintain accurate records of underwriting decisions.
  • Adhere to company processes and best practices.
  • Support QA through case reviews when required.
  • Aim to improve divisional retention, conversion, rate and loss ratio targets.
  • Strengthen Arch’s national presence with brokers and partners.
  • Display strong negotiation skills for conversions and relationships.
  • Collaborate with UKR regional offices and other teams.

Role Summary And Purpose

To achieve income and profit objectives through the delivery of efficient case underwriting, ensuring that all underwriting decisions align with internal guidelines, appetite and regulatory requirements.

Working closely with brokers and internal stakeholders to achieve divisional strategy, financial plan and personal objectives.

Key Tasks And Responsibilities
  • Manage own cases (renewal and/or new business), writing within appetite, and underwriting authority.
  • Handle referral cases for Underwriters/Apprentices with less experience, whilst adhering to individual authority level.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of underwriting decisions.
  • Adopt and adhere to company and NUH prescribed processes and best practice / standard work.
  • Support the Company’s QA procedures by conducting case reviews, when required, to ensure that technical procedures and standards are followed.
  • Work towards divisional retention, conversion, rate and loss ratio targets.
  • Enhance Arch’s standing and presence nationally by establishing and maintaining strong personal relationships with broking partners.
  • Display strong negotiation skills that aide conversion and relationships with all key brokers.
  • Maintain and enhance personal knowledge of relevant technical topics.
  • Work collaboratively with other parts of the organisation, most notably the UKR regional offices.

The job holder will ideally have experience in the Commercial Insurance industry, strong interpersonal skills and work in a structured, organised and planned manner.
