Job summary

Mitie Group plc in the United Kingdom is seeking a maintenance operative to join a small team responsible for day-to-day upkeep of underground environments, ensuring safety, compliance and presentation.

You will perform daily PPMs, uphold health and safety standards, and liaise with MOD MMT, contractors and other stakeholders. The role requires practical hands-on skills, good communication, and the ability to work in challenging environments.

Qualifications

• Good knowledge of health & safety standards and risk awareness.
• Comfortable working in underground environments (e.g. 100 feet below ground).
• Ability to work in a small team with practical, handyman-style tasks.
• Must be physically fit and able to climb stairs in emergencies (over 200 steps).
• Excellent verbal and written communication; proficient with digital reporting tools.

Responsibilities

• Carry out daily pre-planned maintenance (PPMs) and general maintenance in underground environments.
• Uphold health & safety standards and ensure compliance across daily work.
• Liaise with contractors, MOD MMT, facilities and end-user stakeholders to minimise disruption.
• Provide accurate records and reports for inspections and work orders.
• Proactively identify and report maintenance or safety issues and participate in emergency testing.
