Job summary

Egis is expanding its UK Water team and seeking a Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer to shape major water and wastewater projects across the UK. You will lead the mechanical discipline, set standards, and partner with multidisciplinary teams to deliver robust, sustainable treatment solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with relevant professional engineering status.
  • Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer with a recognised institution (e.g., IMechE).
  • Typically 10–12+ years’ relevant mechanical engineering design experience.
  • Background in water, wastewater, biosolids/bioresources or oil & gas preferred.
  • Proven leadership of mechanical design and technical assurance on complex multidisciplinary projects.
  • Strong understanding of UK water sector drivers, asset standards, CDM 2015 and safety-by-design principles.

Responsibilities

  • Provide senior technical leadership for the mechanical discipline within the UK water/wastewater design team.
  • Act as mechanical discipline lead, sub-lead or senior technical authority on complex treatment projects across design, construction support, commissioning and handover.
  • Set and maintain mechanical design standards, checking requirements, design risk processes, digital workflows and quality expectations.
  • Lead and assure complex mechanical deliverables, key technical decisions, equipment strategies and supplier packages.
  • Drive integrated coordination across Process, EICA, civil/structural, architectural, MEP, construction, commissioning and operations teams.
  • Lead senior client engagement, technical workshops, optioneering, value engineering and design reviews.
  • Embed modern delivery approaches including digital design, BIM/MEP coordination, automation and data-led decision making.
  • Support project directors with technical risk, scope, resourcing, programme and budget.
  • Build and develop the mechanical sub-team through recruitment and mentoring.
  • Support business planning, bid strategy and growth of Egis’ UK water/wastewater capability.
