Job summary

The Royal Ballet School is seeking a weekend UK Scholars Coordinator in Manchester to help run Saturday and Sunday classes. You will work with instructors to ensure smooth operations and uphold student safety and wellbeing.

This role has no line management responsibilities and supports the UK Scholars Level 1 program. As part of the team, you will guest manage the welcome process, supervise students during sessions, and assist with any day-to-day logistics, including emergencies and

Responsibilities

  • Meet parents and students, ensuring that the correct welcome process is followed.
  • Supervise children when parents are not present, and assist with transitions between spaces.
  • Help the teacher set up and clear the studio and equipment.
  • Ensure students are collected by a parent/guardian and not left unattended.
  • Escort students to the toilet if necessary; assist any child who is ill or injured.
  • Pass messages to staff and inform of any problems or concerns.
  • Support safeguarding and maintain confidentiality of student information.

Our full-time students are based at White Lodge in Richmond Park and Upper School in Covent Garden.

There are two additional boarding houses for Upper School students in Pimlico and Covent Garden.

The Royal Ballet School operates in locations worldwide, including different Associate centres and venues for Intensive Courses.

LOCATION: Shockout Arts, Brian Statham Way, Old Trafford, Manchester, M16 0PU

DURATION:
Fixed Term from 26 September 2026
– 20 June 2027

RATE OF PAY: £12.72 per hour

HOURS: Saturday and Sunday, between 10.00 - 16.45, on the following dates:

Autumn Term 26 September and 27 September 24 October and 25 October 14 November and 15 November

Spring Term 23 January and 24 January 13 February and 14 February 6 March and 7 March

Summer Term 1 May and 2 May 22 May and 23 May 19 June and 20 June

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

To coordinate the efficient running of UK Scholars classes in Manchester on Saturdays and Sundays during the dates outlined above. This role has no line management responsibility.

UK Scholars Level 1 establishes the foundational architecture of classical ballet training while nurturing creativity, musicality, performance awareness, and holistic development. The programme is fully aligned with The Royal Ballet School System of Training and designed to ensure continuity, progression, and long-term dancer wellbeing.

SUMMARY OF THE ROLE

The successful candidate will support the delivery of UK Scholar camps for The Royal Ballet School, helping to ensure classes run smoothly while prioritising students’ safety and well‑being. Working closely with artistic staff, you will assist in the day‑to‑day operation of classes, ensure that parents and staff follow all relevant procedures, and maintain the confidentiality of all student and staff‑related information.

MAIN DUTIES

This list should be seen as illustrative rather than prescriptive;

Meet parents and students, ensuring that the correct welcome process is followed

Supervise children once the parent leaves, while they change and around the building into their studio as required and directed by the teacher

Help the teacher to set up and clear the studio as required. This would be light equipment and teaching resources

Ensure that students are collected by parent/guardian and are not left unattended at any time. If a student has not been collected, follow the correct procedure

Escort students to the toilet if necessary

Assist any child taken ill or injured in class, under the direction of the class teacher

Pass messages to the class teacher and give brief account of how the day ran, informing them of any problems or concerns

Pass on messages to parents as required

Deal will spare uniform items as necessary

Deal with any lost property as required

To assist teachers and other staff in the event of a fire emergency

Any other duties as may reasonably be required and that fall within the scope and range of the job.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

Excellent communication skills, diplomacy and confidence in liaising with a wide range of people including children and young adults

Ability to prioritise work and remain calm in a busy environment

Able to work flexible hours as the job demands

Access to the internet/emails from home for information purposes

Empathy with the aims and ethos of the School.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

First Aid qualification or willingness to undertake training

An interest in ballet
