Job summary

UK Compliance Manager role based in Glasgow with hybrid working. Lead compliance, governance and assurance across our UK operations. Drive audits, investigations and capability programmes while developing KPIs and reporting for senior leadership.

You will oversee a team of Compliance Advisors, collaborate with regulators and certification bodies, and ensure ongoing adherence to legislative, regulatory and contractual requirements across projects nationwide.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience in Compliance, Governance, Assurance, Quality Management or Risk Management.
  • Experience working within large, complex or heavily regulated industries such as infrastructure, construction, energy, utilities or engineering.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance, governance frameworks and assurance processes.
  • Proven experience leading audits, reviews and compliance programmes.
  • Experience managing and developing teams.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • The ability to challenge constructively and provide independent, objective advice.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and implementing the Business Unit Compliance Strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives and governance requirements.
  • Leading compliance governance arrangements and assurance programmes across the UK.
  • Monitoring legislative, regulatory and contractual obligations and ensuring effective implementation across operational teams.
  • Managing and developing a team of Compliance Advisors.
  • Leading audits, inspections, reviews and compliance assurance activities.
  • Acting as the key liaison with external auditors, certification bodies, regulators and assurance providers.
  • Maintaining oversight of compliance risks and associated control measures.
  • Leading investigations into significant compliance breaches and governance concerns.
  • Providing expert advice and recommendations to senior leadership teams.
  • Developing compliance KPIs, dashboards and performance reporting.
  • Analysing trends and identifying opportunities to improve governance, assurance and business performance.
  • Embedding lessons learned and driving a culture of continual improvement.
  • Delivering compliance awareness, training and capability programmes across the business.

About the role

At Balfour Beatty, we’re delivering some of the UK’s most important infrastructure and energy projects. We’re looking for an experienced UK Compliance Manager to join our team in Glasgow and lead compliance, governance and assurance activities across our operations nationwide.

Reporting to the UK Head of Quality & Compliance, you’ll play a key role in ensuring our business continues to meet legal, regulatory, contractual and management system requirements, whilst providing independent assurance and driving continual improvement across a diverse portfolio of projects.

This is a hybrid role based from our Glasgow office, with regular travel across operational projects and business locations throughout the UK.

What you’ll be doing

Who we’re looking for

We’re seeking a highly capable compliance professional with strong leadership skills and the ability to influence at all levels of the organisation.

You’ll ideally have:

  • Significant experience in Compliance, Governance, Assurance, Quality Management or Risk Management.
  • Experience working within large, complex or heavily regulated industries such as infrastructure, construction, energy, utilities or engineering.
  • A strong understanding of regulatory compliance, governance frameworks and assurance processes.
  • Proven experience leading audits, reviews and compliance programmes.
  • Experience managing and developing teams.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • The ability to challenge constructively and provide independent, objective advice.
  • Experience working with regulators, certification bodies and external auditors.
  • Lead Auditor qualifications or equivalent experience would be advantageous.
  • Relevant professional qualifications or memberships in Compliance, Governance, Quality or Risk disciplines would be desirable.
