Job summary

Polaris Education - Holdsworth School in Burnley, Lancashire, is seeking a dedicated Tutor to join full-time staff during term time. The role focuses on boosting pupil wellbeing, readiness for learning and behaviour management, while supporting personal and academic development within the education team.

You will lead Reading and Phonics, cover classes during PPA and absences, and contribute to enrichment activities. A commitment to professional development is essential.

Qualifications

• GCSE English and Maths (minimum grade C) and sound IT skills.
• HLTA experience required.
• Experience with SEMH pupils in an educational setting.
• Willing to take extra responsibilities in areas like Food Hygiene, Forest School, Lunchtimes, or School Yoga.
• Experience of behaviour management and techniques.
• Committed to professional development and learning.

Responsibilities

• Support wellbeing, readiness for learning, resilience and behaviour management.
• Work with education team to support pupils’ personal and academic development.
• Promote positive learning behaviour with pupils.
• Lead classes during PPA and absence cover with planning support from teaching staff.
• Deliver an enrichment golden time activity.
• Assist in lessons with academic, pastoral, emotional or behavioural support.
• Respond to immediate concerns and clarify the situation.
• Create and collate information related to lessons and interventions.
• Assist in preparing information for pupil meetings.
• Advocate for the ethos of Holdsworth School.
• Lead on Reading and Phonics and review progress.
• Develop Pupil Voice and liaise with SLT about the Pupil Council.
• Develop relationships with parents/carers during transitions and visits.

Role Responsibilities

• To support the improvement of wellbeing, readiness for learning, resilience and behaviour management within Holdsworth School
• Work with members of the education team to support young people's personal and academic development by removing barriers to learning
• To promote positive learning behaviour with young people
• To lead classes during PPA and absence cover. Planning will be supported by teaching staff
• To deliver an enrichment golden time activity
• To support in lessons with academic understanding or pastoral, emotional or behavioural need
• To respond to immediate concerns, clarifying the situation
• To create and collate information relating to lessons and interventions delivered
• To assist in the preparation of information relevant to meetings about pupils
• To be an advocate for the ethos of Holdsworth School
• To lead on Reading and Phonics, reviewing progress made by young people
• To develop the role of Pupil Voice, liaising with SLT about the Pupil Council
• To develop relationships with parents/carers, taking an active role in transitions and consultation visits

Requirements

• Have a strong basic education, with a minimum of GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics, and sound IT skills
• Previous experience in a similar role, i.e. HLTA
• Some previous experience of working with pupils with SEMH within an educational setting
• Be experienced and confident enough to take additional responsibility in an area of school, i.e. Food Hygiene, Forest School, Lunchtimes, School Yoga etc.
• Experience of behaviour management and techniques
• Committed to professional development and willing to learn
