Job summary

Polaris Community seeks an HLTA to support pupil wellbeing, readiness for learning and behaviour management at Holdsworth School in Burnley. You will work with the education team to remove barriers to learning and promote positive learning behaviours.

You will lead classes during PPA and cover, assist with reading/phonics, and engage in enrichment activities while supporting in lessons for pupils with SEMH needs. DBS check will be arranged.

Qualifications

  • GCSE English Language and Mathematics at grade C or equivalent.
  • Strong IT skills.
  • Experience with SEMH settings is desirable.
  • Willingness to take on additional responsibilities (e.g., Food Hygiene, Forest School, Lunchtimes, School Yoga).
  • Experience of behaviour management and techniques.
  • Committed to professional development and learning.

Responsibilities

  • Support the improvement of wellbeing, readiness for learning, resilience and behaviour management within Holdsworth School.
  • Work with education team to support pupils' personal and academic development by removing barriers to learning.
  • Promote positive learning behaviour with young people.
  • Lead classes during PPA and absence cover; planning supported by teaching staff.
  • Deliver an enrichment golden time activity.
  • Support in lessons with academic, pastoral, emotional or behavioural needs.
  • Respond to immediate concerns and clarify the situation.
  • Create and collate information relating to lessons and interventions.
  • Assist in preparation of information for meetings about pupils.
  • Be an advocate for the ethos of Holdsworth School.
  • Lead on Reading and Phonics, reviewing progress.
  • Develop the role of Pupil Voice and liaise with SLT about Pupil Council.
  • Develop relationships with parents/carers during transitions and visits.

Role Responsibilities

  • To support in lessons with academic understanding or pastoral, emotional or behavioural need
  • To respond to immediate concerns, clarifying the situation
  • To create and collate information relating to lessons and interventions delivered
  • To assist in the preparation of information relevant to meetings about pupils
  • To be an advocate for the ethos of Holdsworth School
  • To lead on Reading and Phonics, reviewing progress made by young people
  • To develop the role of Pupil Voice, liaising with SLT about the Pupil Council
  • To develop relationships with parents/carers, taking an active role in transitions and consultation visits
Requirements
  • Have a strong basic education, with a minimum of GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics, and sound IT skills
  • Previous experience in a similar role, i.e. HLTA
  • Some previous experience of working with pupils with SEMH within an educational setting
  • Be experienced and confident enough to take additional responsibility in an area of school, i.e. Food Hygiene, Forest School, Lunchtimes, School Yoga etc.
  • Experience of behaviour management and techniques
  • Committed to professional development and willing to learn
