Job summary

Polaris Education - Holdsworth School in Burnley, Lancashire is seeking a Tutor on a full-time, term-time only basis. The role focuses on supporting wellbeing, readiness for learning and behaviour, while assisting the education team with pupils’ personal and academic development.

• Strong basic education with GCSE English and Maths; good IT skills.
• Previous HLTA experience in an educational setting.
• Experience with SEMH and pupil wellbeing is desirable.
• Willing to take on additional duties (e.g. Food Hygiene, Forest School, Lunchtimes, Yoga).
• Experience of behaviour management and techniques.
• Committed to professional development and learning.

Responsibilities

• Support wellbeing, readiness for learning, resilience and behaviour management.
• Work with the education team to support pupils’ personal and academic development.
• Promote positive learning behaviour with pupils.
• Lead classes during PPA and absence cover; planning supported by staff.
• Deliver an enrichment golden time activity.
• Support in lessons with academic, pastoral, emotional or behavioural needs.
• Respond to immediate concerns and clarify the situation.
• Create and collate information relating to lessons and interventions.
• Assist in preparing information for pupil meetings.
• Advocate for the Holdsworth School ethos.
• Lead on Reading and Phonics; review progress.
• Develop Pupil Voice; liaise with SLT about the Pupil Council.
• Develop relationships with parents/carers and transitions.

Role Responsibilities

• To support the improvement of wellbeing, readiness for learning, resilience and behaviour management within Holdsworth School
• Work with members of the education team to support young people’s personal and academic development by removing barriers to learning
• To promote positive learning behaviour with young people
• To lead classes during PPA and absence cover. Planning will be supported by teaching staff
• To deliver an enrichment golden time activity
• To support in lessons with academic understanding or pastoral, emotional or behavioural need
• To respond to immediate concerns, clarifying the situation
• To create and collate information relating to lessons and interventions delivered
• To assist in the preparation of information relevant to meetings about pupils
• To be an advocate for the ethos of Holdsworth School
• To lead on Reading and Phonics, reviewing progress made by young people
• To develop the role of Pupil Voice, liaising with SLT about the Pupil Council
• To develop relationships with parents/carers, taking an active role in transitions and consultation visits

Requirements

• Have a strong basic education, with a minimum of GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics, and sound IT skills
• Previous experience in a similar role, i.e. HLTA
• Some previous experience of working with pupils with SEMH within an educational setting
• Be experienced and confident enough to take additional responsibility in an area of school, i.e. Food Hygiene, Forest School, Lunchtimes, School Yoga etc.
• Experience of behaviour management and techniques
• Committed to professional development and willing to learn
