Job summary

Polaris Community's Holdsworth School in Burnley, Lancashire, seeks a dedicated Tutor to join during term time. The role focuses on supporting wellbeing and learning, including behaviour management and reading/phonics leadership, with opportunities to lead PPA and enrichment activities.

You will work with the education team to remove barriers to learning, support personal development, and help foster a positive learning environment for pupils with complex needs.

Qualifications

• GCSE English & Maths (C) or equivalent.
• Previous HLTA experience is desirable.
• Experience with SEMH pupils is preferred.
• Willingness to take on additional responsibilities in school areas.

Responsibilities

• Support wellbeing, readiness for learning, resilience and behaviour management.
• Lead classes during PPA and absence cover; planning assisted by teaching staff.
• Deliver enrichment activities and support in lessons for academic or pastoral needs.
• Prepare information for meetings about pupils and transitions.

Role Responsibilities

• To support the improvement of wellbeing, readiness for learning, resilience and behaviour management within Holdsworth School
• Work with members of the education team to support young people's personal and academic development by removing barriers to learning
• To promote positive learning behaviour with young people
• To lead classes during PPA and absence cover. Planning will be supported by teaching staff
• To deliver an enrichment golden time activity
• To support in lessons with academic understanding or pastoral, emotional or behavioural need
• To respond to immediate concerns, clarifying the situation
• To create and collate information relating to lessons and interventions delivered
• To assist in the preparation of information relevant to meetings about pupils
• To be an advocate for the ethos of Holdsworth School
• To lead on Reading and Phonics, reviewing progress made by young people
• To develop the role of Pupil Voice, liaising with SLT about the Pupil Council
• To develop relationships with parents/carers, taking an active role in transitions and consultation visits

Requirements

• Have a strong basic education, with a minimum of GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics, and sound IT skills
• Previous experience in a similar role, i.e. HLTA
• Some previous experience of working with pupils with SEMH within an educational setting
• Be experienced and confident enough to take additional responsibility in an area of school, i.e. Food Hygiene, Forest School, Lunchtimes, School Yoga etc.
• Experience of behaviour management and techniques
• Committed to professional development and willing to learn
