Job summary

University Hospitals Of Leicester NHS Trust is seeking a Clinical Pharmacist to act as Responsible Pharmacist and contribute to high-quality pharmacy services for patients and staff. The role includes screening prescriptions for safety and appropriateness, ensuring compliance with SOPs and regulatory standards, and supporting quality improvement initiatives.

Job description

Established in 2016, TrustMed Pharmacy provides exceptional, accessible and innovative healthcare and pharmaceutical services to patients, staff and the local community. Operating from newly refurbished dispensaries at Leicester Royal Infirmary, Leicester General Hospital and Glenfield Hospital, TrustMed Pharmacy is a wholly owned subsidiary of University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, with a high-performing team of over 50 staff.

As a Clinical Pharmacist, you will work as an integral part of our dedicated and high-performing pharmacy team, contributing to the delivery of safe, effective and high-quality pharmacy services. You will have the opportunity to work in modern, newly refurbished dispensary environments and play an important role in supporting the continued development and improvement of our services.

The Focus Of Your Role Will Be To

• Act as a Responsible Pharmacist.
• Professionally screen prescriptions, ensuring they are safe, accurate and appropriate.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver high-quality pharmacy services to patients and staff.
• Engage in and contribute to the continuous quality improvement processes within the pharmacy.
• Support the ongoing development of a high-performing pharmacy team and contribute to a positive culture of innovation and service improvement.
• Act as Responsible Pharmacist, ensuring compliance with SOPs, GPhC standards and relevant policies, and overseeing the safe and effective sale and supply of medicines. Ensure patient needs are met, resolve issues promptly, provide services in line with specifications, and support clinical screening, accuracy checking, counselling and best practice.
• Professionally screen prescriptions, optimising treatment where appropriate, confirming compliance with local policies, guidance and formularies, and ensuring prescriptions are safe, clear and suitable for dispensing. Resolve queries and owing prescriptions promptly to minimise risk to patients.
• Contribute to continuous quality improvement, including reducing waiting times, improving patient experience, strengthening relationships with prescribers and clinical teams, and identifying and managing risks within the dispensing process.
• Act as a positive role model and support the training and development of apprentices and trainee staff.
• Take responsibility for your own learning and development, including completion of HELM requirements.
• Champion designated areas of the dispensary and take accountability for their performance.
• Undertake any other reasonable duties required to support the effective operation of the pharmacy service.
