We are looking to recruit a Trust & Tax Manager to join the Private Wealth department in our Manchester office.
The successful candidate will work closely with partners and members of our growing team. The team itself deals with a wide range of trust administration work together with tax and probate matters.
The role will suit someone who has excellent people skills and who is looking to develop their career within a friendly team.
We encourage applications from applicants who have been exposed to general private client and are looking to expand their knowledge and experience in the area.
This is a full-time position (35 hours a week), based at our head office in Spinningfields, Manchester with the option to work remotely up to two days a week.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Pro-actively managing clients to ensure any tax-planning and/or succession planning issues are acted upon when appropriate.
- Overseeing and contributing towards the timely preparation of trust accounts and tax returns including inheritance tax returns and dealing with HM Revenue and Customs as required.
- Calculating trustees’ liabilities to IHT, CGT and Income Tax and making use of annual exemptions.
- Preparing for and attending trustees’ meetings and taking minutes of those meetings.
- Dealing with payments and distributions from trusts, both capital and discretionary income distributions.
- Preparing and reviewing trustees’ investment policy statements.
- Reviewing and interpreting trust deeds and related documentation with input from the wider team, as appropriate.
- Keeping partners regularly updated with progress on assignments and assisting with billing.
- Ensure all written and verbal communication is of the highest professional standard.
- Any other tasks as may be required from time to time.
Person Specification / Technical Skills
The ideal candidate will:
- Be enthusiastic and dedicated to pursuing a career in private client work, with a focus on trust and estate administration.
- Be willing to share knowledge and experience with colleagues. Have excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise competing demands effectively. Have a high degree of attention to detail.
- Be familiar with CCH or a similar tax reporting software (although full training can be given where necessary).
- Have strong problem-solving skills.
- Good level of judgement and logical approach to problem solving.
- Good standard of oral and written communication skills.
- Self-motivated and have the ability to work under pressure.
- The ability to deal with client and professional advisors thereby showing a commitment to providing a quality service.
- Good internal personal skills in dealing with clients, colleagues and senior management.
- Good time management and organisational skills.
- Have ability to multi-task.
- Able to work on own initiative and to be highly disciplined.
Professional Qualifications:
Diploma qualified STEP or other relevant professional tax qualification. However, lack of these qualifications should not put applicants off from applying and practical experience will be considered.
