Job summary

Kent and Medway Mental Health NHS Trust is seeking a proactive Security Officer (Band 5) to safeguard staff, patients and environments across Kent & Medway. Are you a proactive security or risk management professional looking to make a meaningful impact across Kent and Medway? As a Trust Security Officer (Band 5), you will play a vital, high‑profile role in safeguarding our staff, patients, and healthcare environments. Joining the Transformation and Partnerships Directorate, you will work closely with the Trust Security Manager and Resilience Team to shape a culture of physical safety, deterrence, and high security standards. This dynamic role comes at an exciting time of expansion. You will take the lead on key operational initiatives— including conducting trust‑wide security audits, implementing our Physical Security Strategy, analysing incident trends, and designing impactful security learning and exercise programs. Crucially, you will help embed new responsibilities, such as the implementation of Martyn's Law (Protection of Premises Act) and supporting Children and Young People's Mental Health Services. • Operational & Strategy Support: Work alongside the Trust Security Manager and Resilience Team to implement the Physical Security Strategy and maintain robust security standards across Kent & Medway.
• Audits & Risk Management: Plan, book, and conduct comprehensive physical security audits and inspections across Trust sites, maintaining up-to-date risk assessment records.
• Martyn's Law & Expansion: Support the rollout of the Protection of Premises Act (Martyn's Law) and adapt security operations for expanding Children and Young People's Mental Health Services.
• Data Analysis & Reporting: Analyse security incident trends, produce high-quality governance reports, and create detailed audit action plans.
• Training & Exercises: Design, implement, and facilitate engaging security learning, awareness, and exercise programmes for Trust staff.
• Policy & Governance: Assist in reviewing and delivering security strategies, standard operating procedures, and policies, recommending improvements where needed.
• Multi-Agency Collaboration: Build and maintain strong working relationships with Kent Police, partner organisations, and internal clinical/specialist teams.
• Single Point of Contact: Manage the central Trust Security inquiry inbox, signpost staff for post‑incident support, and deputise for the Security Manager when required. Good general education to GCE/GCSE level to include English Language and Mathematics
• Educated to Diploma or equivalent experience; SIA accreditation
• Safeguarding training (Adults and Children)
• Teaching/Training skills qualification
• Audit skills qualification, Extensive experience of safety and security or security risk management in a large, complex and diverse organisation
• Extensive experience of undertaking audits and inspections.
• Experience of developing, implementing and facilitating learning programmes.
• Excellent IT skills, particularly use of Microsoft Office and use of the Intranet and email
• Ability to produce high quality, succinct reports.; Can relate to a wide range of staff and colleagues within a large, complex and diverse organisation.
• Ability to work with large amounts of data using critical faculties to closely check the outputs and verify accuracy.
• Can meet challenging and conflicting deadlines.
