Job description

This is an exciting role for doctors looking to take a break from formal training. The role primarily involves covering the Surgical Assessment Unit, with the possibility of supporting theatre activities.

The successful applicant will join an established 1 in 8 on-call rota. Currently, the on-call duties include an onsite element during the day and a non-resident component overnight, subject to change.

Responsibilities:

1. Provide day-to-day care for inpatients under consultant supervision, assisting in operations appropriate to experience and case complexity.
2. Participate in a 1:8 non-resident 24-hour on-call rota in General Surgery with prospective cover.
3. Contribute to the teaching of medical students and junior doctors.
4. Engage in current research and audits.
5. Involve in administrative tasks such as specialty meetings and case summaries.
6. Attend weekly General Surgery meetings, including Morbidity & Mortality and Multidisciplinary team meetings.
7. Attend outpatient clinics and endoscopy sessions at Outpatient Clinics in Andover.
8. Perform duties during occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances, as requested by consultants, with the understanding that such commitments are exceptional and not prolonged or regular for trainees.

Additional Information:

The post mainly involves duties at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, with some attendance at outpatient clinics and endoscopy in Andover.
