Job Overview

Please note this is a 7 month contract only and we are unable to offer a Certificate of Sponsorship.

We are pleased to seek applications for a Trust Grade Registrar for a 7 month post in Geriatric Medicine starting February to the 1st September 2026.

As part of this role there will be opportunities to undertake audits, to be involved in governance activities and to take part in service improvement projects to enhance the post holder's CV.

Ideal Candidates

These posts are an ideal stepping stone for candidates who wish to acquire a training number in Medicine and who have either gained their full MRCP or have part 1+2 and are due to undertake PACES or await their PACES outcome but wish to acquire additional skills and experience whilst working as a medical registrar. They are also ideal for those who are coming to the end of their IM3 year, or simply looking for a post outside of training for a period of time.

Key Responsibilities
  • Please familiarise yourself with the job description along with reading the information below NUH is a leader in the field of using new data sets to improve doctor experience/training, and has forged strong research links with the University of Nottingham.
  • There will be opportunities to be involved in exciting and innovative projects around the use of novel IT solutions and app development.
  • Post holders will be expected to keep themselves up to date with current knowledge and practice, attend clinical meetings within departments and participate in audit and in service training of other professionals.
  • Participate in a weekly teaching programme for junior staff (Grand Round) and maintain an educational portfolio with named Educational and Clinical Supervision.
  • Attend weekly departmental education and audit meetings, monthly M & M meetings and postgraduate activities.
  • Collaborate with the fully staffed audit office for logistical and statistical support.
  • Attend the two‑day “Medical Emergency” course held twice yearly for Trust Grade doctors.
  • Engage with service development projects and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provide clinical care including assessment, diagnosis, management, and decision‑making, under Consultant supervision.
Learning & Development Opportunities
  • To develop further expertise in the identification and management of the sick patient.
  • To gain experience and familiarity in identifying and managing a wide variety of medical conditions, including making appropriate decisions regarding the need for admission, and developing strategies that may provide an alternative to admission or safe early discharge.
  • To further develop skills of history taking, physical examination, appropriate investigation and rational prescribing.
  • To master a number of procedural techniques.
  • To hone communication skills with patients, relatives and colleagues.
  • To develop skills in managing time and conflicting priorities.
  • To progressively work towards independent practice at Registrar level, leading ward rounds, assessing patients, making decisions etc., with Consultant support and supervision available at all times.
Working Hours & Rota

All posts are on a full shift rota (long days, nights, weekends). The rota level will depend on experience but will either be at IM3 level or our ST4+ GIM rota. Both rotas cover City and QMC out of hours.
