Job Description:

Job overview

Barts Health NHS Trust aims to be a high-performing group of NHS hospitals, renowned for excellence and innovation, providing safe and compassionate care to patients in east London and beyond.

These posts offer exposure to a variety of cardiovascular conditions and are suitable for those with a good grounding in general cardiology wishing to gain experience in advanced imaging and specialised cardiology. The Barts imaging/specialised clinical fellow post has a successful track record of transitioning fellows into cardiology consultant roles across the UK and internationally.

Please note: The vacancy may close early if sufficient applications are received. We recommend submitting your application promptly to avoid missing out.

Main duties of the job

  • Support all cardiac imaging modalities including cardiac MRI, cardiac CT, advanced echocardiography (exercise/dobutamine/CPEX stress, deformation, 3D echocardiography, TOE) and nuclear cardiology. This involves supervising and performing studies, reporting on patients, maintaining safety, and assisting in departmental operations.
  • Provide support for outpatient, inpatient, and MDT management of specialised cardiology service patients, including cardio-oncology, heart muscle disease, advanced heart failure, and preventive cardiology.
  • Participate in a ward rota supporting cardiology consultation services under consultant supervision, providing advice in various hospital units, including Europe's largest haemato-oncology unit at UCLH. Specialist nursing support is available.

Working for our organisation

Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts, committed to excellence, innovation, and compassionate care. We are focused on continuous improvement, safety, and creating an inclusive environment where all staff feel valued and supported.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The non-consultant weeks typically include training in advanced imaging and cardio-oncology, clinics in general and specialised cardiology, and sessions for admin, research, audit, and teaching. The rota complies with the European Working Time Directive. Educational opportunities include weekly cardiology teaching and departmental meetings, along with MDT meetings in various specialised cardiology areas. Fellows are supported to achieve formal competencies in their chosen fields, with educational supervision provided.
