An established industry player is seeking a dedicated Ophthalmology Fellow for a 12-month Cornea and Oculoplastics fellowship at a leading NHS hospital. The post-holder forms part of a team of 14 Consultants supported by an Associate Specialist (1), Clinical Fellows (6), and specialist trainees (5).
The post is a 12 month Cornea and Oculoplastics fellowship that can be extended up to two years. The post is based at Whipps Cross University Hospital and provides the opportunity to work with Consultants specialising in Cornea, Oculoplastics and Cataract. The timetable includes a variety of corneal and oculoplastic clinics with theatre sessions in both sub-specialties each week. There is monthly combined surgery with ENT to provide endonasal lacrimal surgery.
There is a 1:8 first on-call commitment and a busy eye casualty session.
Main duties of the job
Attend sub-specialty clinics (Cornea and oculoplastics)Perform out-patient procedures. Attend eye casualty services. Perform ophthalmic surgery. Manage eye emergencies including on-call duties (1:8)Vetting of ophthalmology referrals. Participation in clinical trials (recruitment, trial treatments, data collection etc) and training. To support the Cornea and Oculoplastics service. To gain exposure in surgery including anterior segment, oculoplastic and lacrimal surgery and experience in cataract surgery. To participate in audit, teaching, research and clinical trials. The job description is not intended to be exhaustive, and it is likely that duties may be altered from time to time in the light of changing circumstances and after consultation with the post-holder. The post-holder accepts that he/she will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the Ophthalmology Clinical Lead.
