Job description

Day to day you will be maintaining and operating the sewer network and its associated assets whilst carrying out basic mechanical maintenance and fault finding. The work involves confined space access working in some of London’s most challenging subterranean areas.

What you’ll be doing as a Trunk Sewer Technician

1. Complete planned, emergency and defect maintenance of the trunk sewer network.
2. Perform physical maintenance of the sewer network and associated assets, e.g., penstock gates.
3. Operate plant and equipment.
4. Carry out cleaning, basic maintenance, and fault-finding.
5. Note: The role requires working in confined spaces, at heights, and lifting heavy loads; training will be provided.

Base location: Hammersmith (PS), W6 9RS

Working hours: 38 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 6:30 am – 3:45 pm; with 1 week out of 5 on the night shift from 9:00 pm - 5:30 am; includes standby rota with additional pay.

What you should bring to the role

1. Previous maintenance experience, especially mechanical, is advantageous; relevant qualifications are desirable.
2. You must be physically fit and willing to work in challenging environments, including manual handling activities for large mechanical assets.
3. Proactive, team-oriented, and able to demonstrate initiative and flexibility.
4. A valid UK driving licence is preferred; HGV training can be provided.
5. Willingness to work shift patterns, including nights and out-of-hours call-outs.
6. For health and safety, you must be clean-shaven to wear respiratory protective equipment (RPE) correctly.
