A leading NHS Trust in London is seeking a Radiotherapy Specialist to join their head and neck-oncology service. The role involves providing specialized patient care, technical treatment planning, and clinical leadership. The ideal candidate will have extensive expertise in radiotherapy techniques, ensuring high-quality support for patients and their families throughout their treatment journey.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to join the radiotherapy team at UCLH and become a key member of the head and neck-oncology service. Our patients are currently treated with advanced photon radiotherapy techniques.
The post holder will provide care to patients receiving treatment in both the photon and proton departments. This role enables patients to access a dedicated key-worker who offers specialised support in treatment planning, delivery, and toxicity management throughout their radiotherapy journey.
The post holder will possess the specialist technical expertise to plan and deliver this complex pathway, maintaining sustained contact over several weeks. Their knowledge, skills, care, and support are vital to ensuring positive patient outcomes and experiences.
This role collaborates with the wider MDT and colleagues in other Trusts and primary care to develop services that support patients and their families, improving both patient experience and disease outcomes. The role aims to enhance the availability, reliability, and level of support, promoting equitable service provision. Comprehensive proton beam therapy training will be provided.
This is an autonomous role where the post holder manages their own caseload and is accountable for their professional actions and those of junior staff. They will provide clinical leadership in head and neck patient care and be an integral part of the oncology team.
The post holder will be recognized as an expert in head and neck radiotherapy, promoting best practices, advising patients and carers, and sharing knowledge with the profession and multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities include daily evaluation of patient condition, accurate setup, and expert intervention. They will set standards, ensure staff are updated on current techniques, and oversee pathway management to meet national and local targets, adhering to guidelines and directives.
The role involves developing policies, protocols, and engaging in research and innovation to improve radiotherapy quality, patient care, and staff satisfaction.
