The Role:

The Markets team acts as the Front Office for Treasury and is responsible for all trade and execution on behalf of the bank to include HQLA, IRRBB and FX management. Alongside the day-to-day management of activities, there is a requirement to accommodate strategic and system changes and drive continuous improvement on all aspects of the Markets team. This is predominantly a hands-on office-based role, great for an analyst looking for broad exposure to front office.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Deputy Head of Markets in day-to-day running activities of the Front Office and liquidity portfolio activities, providing suitable cover in times of absence
  • Managing and controlling the Bank’s TMS system and booking activities, working closely with middle and back offices
  • Support the Deputy Head of Markets on other treasury related market and execution activities as required
  • Supporting hedging activity (IRS and FX), ensuring adherence to relevant procedures and limits.
  • A good understanding of the Macro Economy.
  • Dual responsibility for liquidity portfolio bond purchases, pricing and booking (with recommendation papers to ALCO /senior management as required)
  • conducting and developing initial and ongoing credit checks for bond purchases, including bond portfolio monitoring and review to meet regulatory and internal control requirements.
  • Develop external market relationships with banks, bond issuers and other market counterparties to support the Bank’s treasury deliverables under guidance from senior management.
  • This is a treasury analyst role which will grow in line with the growth of the Bank and the Treasury function and will provide an excellent opportunity for the individual to have exposure to all of Treasury functions, offering opportunity for future growth and promotion.

    Additional Responsibilities for Role

    • Individual should expect high involvement with Treasury systems implementation as the organisation looks to embed the new Treasury & Risk system
    • Support the Deputy head of Markets at all times. Provide Holiday cover for the Markets team, which will involve exposure to trading and execution (Full training will be provided)

Essential Knowledge & Experience:

  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in a Bank Treasury or similar
  • Be highly motivated with a general understanding of Treasury Front office activities in a banking environment
  • Have a good knowledge of FX and IRRBB risks
  • Be highly IT and numerically literate.
  • Be able to work in a high pressured and fast-moving environment, dealing with practical solutions
  • Be a clear and effective communicator, both written and oral
  • Have awareness of risks; credit, operational, capital and legal
  • Have advanced Excel skills

Desirable Knowledge & Experience:

Experience of working in the Treasury department of a mid-sized building society or challenger bank.

Educated to degree level, ideally with a mathematical/numerical focus

Experience of using Front Office Treasury Systems, Bloomberg/Reuters, SIENA, Eurobase or other such systems.

Proven stakeholder management and ability to manage competing priorities as they arise

A co-operative and collaborative attitude who can work well in and across teams, both within finance / treasury / risk and across the wider business

Proven self-starter who can take the lead in issue identification and problem solving

Good communication skills and ability to translate complex treasury activities into easy-to-understand explanations
