Job summary

Dorset Council in Weymouth is seeking a Youth Practitioner to provide therapeutic, trauma-informed care for children and young people in a residential setting and through outreach work in the community.

You will support routines, education attendance, family engagement, and safeguarding while building resilience and independence. This role requires evenings, sleep-ins, and weekend work as part of a dynamic team.

Qualifications

• Experience caring for children and young people in residential or outreach settings.
• Knowledge of safeguarding responsibilities and trauma-informed practice.
• Ability to support education, routines, and personal development.

Responsibilities

• Provide therapeutic care in a residential home for 12+ young people.
• Support daily routines, education attendance, personal care and boundaries.
• Build safe, trusting relationships and promote independence.
• Manage safeguarding risks and respond to complex behaviours.
• Deliver outreach support to families and communities as part of role.
• Record keeping and collaboration with multi-agency partners.
