Job summary

A voluntary sector organization in the UK is seeking a qualified counsellor/psychotherapist to deliver trauma-informed therapeutic services primarily in prisons. Ideal candidates should hold a Diploma in Counselling or equivalent, have a solid understanding of trauma, and a commitment to supporting male survivors of sexual harms. We Are Survivors are currently looking for individuals that havethe passion, drive and determination to help us deliver our OUT Spoken TalkingTherapy Services in our Merseyside, Lancashire and Cheshire estate.

WeAre Survivors provide survivor-focused therapeutic and advocacy support to male(including Trans and Non-binary) victims/survivors, and their loved ones, ofsexual harms. We have developed a three-tiered approach to services andunderpin everything we do with a trauma and recovery framework pioneered byDr Judith Herman.

Weare currently commissioned to deliver trauma-informed therapy services in 15prisons across the Northwest of England and we require postings in our prisonsacross Merseyside, Lancaster and Cheshire. Please note we have no vacancies inour Greater Manchester prisons.

Main duties of the job

Deliver prison-based trauma-informedtherapeutic services.

Accurately record clinicalinterventions.

Undertake specific therapeuticprojects as directed by the Executive Team.

Job responsibilities

Youwill be a qualified counsellor / psychotherapist who holds at least a Diplomain Counselling / Psychotherapy or equivalent and be registered with BACP orequivalent (preferably an accredited member). You will understand issuesrelating to trauma, be able to work as part of a team and feel confidentworking in a prison setting. You will hold a full driving licence, have accessto a vehicle and be within a reasonable commute to estates.

Maintain strictconfidentiality boundaries as you have access to sensitive, restricted, andclassified information; and ensure that you are fully compliant with allinformation governance policies set by the organisation and/or InformationCommissioners Office.

Respect individualsright to anonymity within and outside of the organisation.

Fully comply with allprofessional external frameworks, charters or practice standards that We AreSurvivors subscribes to, is a member of, or carries.

Fully comply withthe organisations standard operating procedures / quality assurance,guidelines, policies, and procedures, including all accurate recording ofinformation and ensuring you do not act to compromise the organisationalstandards or any formal QA Accreditation.

Remain aware at alltimes of your responsibilities for your own health and safety, for the Healthand Safety of those directly responsible to you, your work colleagues and anyothers who may be affected by the operations under your responsibility or control.

Ensure you complywith all requirements identified within infection control measures and riskmanagement, both nationally and locally.

Qualifications
  • Diploma in Counselling / Psychotherapy (or equivalent)
  • Safeguarding Children / Adults Level 1
  • English (GCSE/similar or above)
  • Masters Degree in counselling, psychotherapy.
  • Certificate / Diploma in EMDR.
  • PG Cert / Diploma in CBT.
Experience
  • Knowledge and Experience:
  • Understanding of issues relating to RASSO (Rape and Serious Sexual Offences), particularly those relating to boys and men.
  • Experience of providing 1:1 support or advocacy to adults and/or young people with vulnerabilities.
  • Experience of processing data at a strict confidentiality level.
  • Skills:
  • Ability to prioritise own work load.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities to meet deadlines.Good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, or equivalent, and electronic database system.
  • Values:

  • Knowledge and Experience:
  • Experience of working within the Criminal Justice System, particularly in a prison setting.
  • Experience of providing formal mentoring relationship.
  • Experience of working within a highly confidential setting, adhering to information governance.
  • Understanding of issues relating to rape and sexual assault, particularly those relating to boys and men.
  • Experience of working within the voluntary, community or social enterprise (VCSE) sector.
