Job summary

Reading Borough Council is seeking a Residential Child Care Practitioner for Pinecroft, an outstanding Ofsted-rated service. You will provide high-quality, trauma-informed care to children aged 8-18 with disabilities, manage care plans, and work a shift rota including early, late, long days, sleep-ins and weekends.

You will be a professional role model, demonstrate resilience, and engage with families and partner agencies to improve outcomes.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children and young people.
• Motivation to work in residential childcare settings.
• Team player with good interpersonal skills and a flexible approach.
• Understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Uses initiative to problem solve.
• Commitment to continuous professional development.
• Willingness to undertake Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
• Sound understanding of ICT with good keyboard skills.
• Resilience and ability to manage stress.
• Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends and nights.
• Driving licence and willingness to drive a home vehicle.

Responsibilities
