Job summary

St Giles Trust is seeking a Prison Trainer to deliver engaging, trauma-informed training for people in custody and staff at HMP Dovegate. You will develop materials, tailor sessions and support learners to build skills, confidence and peer-support capabilities.

Applicants should have training or facilitation experience, strong communication skills, and a commitment to safeguarding and professional boundaries.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering training, facilitating group learning or supporting personal development in educational, community or custodial settings.
• Knowledge of learner engagement techniques and inclusive learning practices.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to adapt training methods to diverse learning styles.
• Experience maintaining records, monitoring progress and reporting outcomes.
• Relevant training, teaching or facilitation qualification, or willingness to work towards one.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging and inclusive training programmes, including City & Guilds Assured Learning programmes and specialist peer-support training.
• Create and prepare learning materials, lesson plans and training activities that meet diverse learner needs.
• Support learners to understand professional boundaries and responsibilities within peer-support roles.
• Monitor learner progress and provide constructive feedback to encourage development and achievement.
• Deliver awareness sessions for prison staff on peer support, trauma-informed practice, emotional resilience and conflict mediation.
• Maintain accurate training and learner records, contributing to performance reporting and service improvement.
• Build positive working relationships with learners, prison staff and partner organisations.
