Job summary

Catch22 Include School in Ipswich is seeking a dedicated Teacher to support vulnerable pupils aged 5 to 11 with challenging behaviours within an alternative education setting. You will deliver the primary curriculum with creativity and with a trauma-informed approach, working in a small class with a teaching assistant.

We expect a recognised teaching qualification and experience with KS1/KS2, plus a solid understanding of the National Curriculum.

Qualifications

• A recognised higher qualification with significant experience of teaching.
• Experience with a cohort of young people including those with complex, high behaviour and additional learning needs.
• Extensive behaviour management experience with students who have complex needs and extreme behaviour.
• Previous experience in teaching KS1/KS2 pupils.
• Clear understanding of the National Curriculum and its application.
• Knowledge of behavioural techniques and theories and their application.
• Knowledge of equal opportunities, discrimination, health and safety, safeguarding and child protection.
• Planning and assessment techniques knowledge.
• Ability to personalise learning to provide opportunities for all learners to achieve their potential.
• Ability to work effectively with students with complex needs.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Use of ICT to deliver teaching and learning.
• Teamwork to deliver a holistic educational package.
• Ability to cope with emotionally demanding situations.
• Build positive and professional relationships with students, colleagues, parents/carers and other stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Create an inspirational learning environment with high expectations for learner achievement and progression.
• Plan, produce and update schemes of work meeting curriculum and regulatory requirements.
• Develop learning resources and routes meeting learner and Catch22 requirements.
• Prepare lessons for off-site students for support staff to deliver.
• Support learners to reflect on progress and set targets for improvement.
• Maintain good order and safeguarding of students.
• Build relationships with students and families; liaise with external agencies as appropriate.
• Undertake administrative teaching tasks including examinations and registrations.
