Job summary

Catch22 Include School in Ipswich is seeking a dedicated Teacher to support vulnerable pupils aged 5 to 11 with challenging behaviours within an alternative education setting. You will deliver the primary curriculum with creativity and with a trauma-informed approach, working in a small class with a teaching assistant.

We expect a recognised teaching qualification and experience with KS1/KS2, plus a solid understanding of the National Curriculum.

Qualifications

• A recognised higher qualification with significant experience of teaching.
• Experience with a cohort of young people including those with complex, high behaviour and additional learning needs.
• Extensive behaviour management experience with students who have complex needs and extreme behaviour.
• Previous experience in teaching KS1/KS2 pupils.
• Clear understanding of the National Curriculum and its application.
• Knowledge of behavioural techniques and theories and their application.
• Knowledge of equal opportunities, discrimination, health and safety, safeguarding and child protection.

Responsibilities

• Create an inspirational learning environment with high expectations for learner achievement and progression.
• Plan, produce and update schemes of work meeting curriculum and regulatory requirements.
• Develop learning resources and routes meeting learner and Catch22 requirements.
• Prepare lessons for off-site students for support staff to deliver.
• Support learners to reflect on progress and set targets for improvement.
• Maintain good order and safeguarding of students.
• Build relationships with students and families; liaise with external agencies as appropriate.
• Undertake administrative teaching tasks including examinations and registrations.

Catch22 Include schools provide an alternative to mainstream schooling for young people aged 5 to 11 years old where multiple barriers to learning have previously affected engagement and access to education. We are offering an exciting opportunity for an unqualified or qualified teacher to join our award winning, Ofsted 'Good' school team in supporting children with additional needs and social, emotional and mental health difficulties, often stemming from trauma. The work is intensive requiring flexibility, sensitivity, patience and resilience. Re-igniting pupils’ love of learning is central to what we do, therefore an ability to work with and engage all students with creativity and passion towards the primary curriculum is essential. You will be working with a maximum of 8 upper key stage 2 students per class, supported by a teaching assistant, enabling you to build core relationships with pupils using the trauma-informed approach. As a Teacher in our school, your main accountabilities will include:

• Teaching and learning: Creating an inspirational learning environment with high expectations of learner achievement, success and progression.
• Planning, producing and updating schemes of work to meet curriculum, inspection, and accreditation requirements, taking into account guidance from the DFE and other regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with all current requirements.
• Developing learning resources and learning routes that meet learner needs and the requirements of Catch22 and commissioner requirements.
• Preparing lessons for off-site students for support staff to deliver
• Supporting and guiding learners so that they can reflect on their learning, identify the progress they have made and set positive targets for improvement.
• Maintaining good order and discipline among the students, safeguarding their wellbeing.
• Building effective and supporting relationships with students and families/carers; embedding that trust and support within the education process.
• Liaising with outside agencies as appropriate.
• Undertaking relevant administrative tasks associated with the teaching function including examination/accreditation entries for learners, register taking and invigilation.

Other duties:

• Acting as a role model; champion Catch22 and the Education directorate’s vision and values.
• Comply with Catch22 policies and procedures including safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, data protection and confidentiality.
• Undertake personal and professional development activities and liaise with other staff so knowledge and best practice can be shared.

We are looking for someone with the following skills, experience and qualifications:

• Knowledge of the statutory requirements of equal opportunities, discrimination, health and safety, safeguarding and child protection.
• A sound knowledge of planning and assessment techniques.
• An extensive knowledge and understanding of how to use and adapt a range of teaching, learning and behaviour management strategies, including how to personalise learning to provide opportunities for all learners to achieve their potential.
• Ability to work effective with students with complex needs
• Ability to communicate effectively both in verbal and written form.
• Ability to effectively use a variety of teaching and organisational styles and resources, including ICT to deliver outstanding teaching and learning.
• Ability to work as part of a team to deliver a holistic educational package.
• Ability to cope with emotionally demanding situations.
• Ability to build positive and professional relationships between students, colleagues, parents/carers and other stakeholders as appropriate.

Salary: £26,096.00 and £43,493.00 FTE per annum (Depending on experience and qualifications) Contract: 52 weeks of the year, 37 hours per week (8.30am - 16.30pm) To start asap
