Job summary

Changing Pathways Essex is seeking a Children and Young Person Counsellor to provide therapeutic interventions for children and young people within our service. You will manage your caseload, conduct assessments, and attend meetings, while maintaining confidential records and collaborating with schools, parents, and multi-agency partners.

This is a face-to-face role on-site from 9am to 5pm. You will be a member of a relevant professional body, with enhanced DBS or Update Service membership.

Qualifications

• Must hold Level 3 qualification in child counselling or Level 4 diploma in school-based child counselling.
• Minimum 150 clinical hours experience working with children aged 5 years and above.
• Experience in charity or mental health settings to increase awareness within the organisation.
• Experience of assessing risk and recording, communicating and mitigating appropriately.
• Desirable: safeguarding experience for adults and CYP.
• Desirable: CORE10 Young people forms experience.
• Desirable: group facilitation experience.
• Strong knowledge of safeguarding procedures, child protection legislation and best practice with vulnerable children.
• Excellent communication, active listening and rapport-building; adaptable to diverse ages/backgrounds.
• Maintain clear, concise case records and use basic case management systems.
• Strong teamwork and collaboration with multi-agency partners.
• Resilience, emotional maturity, and reflective practice; commitment to equality and inclusive practice.
• Willingness to undertake ongoing professional development, training and supervision.
• Ability to work full time on site with good time-management and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage caseload and conduct assessments for children and young people.
• Attend meetings and maintain confidential records of counselling sessions.
• Collaborate with pastoral teams in schools, parents/caregivers and other practitioners.
• Work face-to-face on site between 9am and 5pm.

Education

Level 3 qualification in child counselling skills or Level 4 diploma in school based child counselling or post graduate diploma in counselling and psychotherapy for children and young people in schools
