Job summary

Martin Brower UK & Ireland is seeking a Transport Shift Manager at Darlington to lead day-to-day transport operations, supporting drivers, shunters and clerical colleagues to deliver safe, efficient service and compliant operations while fostering a positive team culture.

You will drive scheduling and workforce planning, coach team members, and oversee performance reviews to maintain high standards of safety, service and continuous improvement across the operation.

Qualifications

• Experience leading teams in fast-paced logistics/transport environments.
• Strong focus on health and safety, quality, compliance and operational integrity.
• Able to organise priorities, manage competing demands, and adapt in a dynamic setting.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and support daily transport operations, ensuring workloads, service levels and productivity targets are met safely.
• Collaborate with drivers, operations teams and customer service to deliver a positive customer experience.
• Coach, develop and performance manage team members through feedback, training and reviews.
• Plan workforce resources, including shift preparation, holiday management, absence cover and scheduling.
• Monitor performance, compliance, fleet availability, KPIs and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Promote a culture of health, safety, wellbeing, quality and compliance across transport activities.
• Assist in preparing operational and financial reporting and support audits.
