Job summary

Martin Brower UK & Ireland is seeking a Transport Shift Manager in Darlington to coordinate daily transport operations and support a team of drivers, shunters, and clerical colleagues. The role focuses on safe, efficient, compliant operations and a positive team culture.

You will plan workloads, monitor performance, coach staff, and work with cross-functional teams to deliver high service levels and continuous improvement, in a collaborative, people-first environment.

Qualifications

• Experience leading teams in logistics, transport, FMCG, or operations.
• Commitment to health, safety, compliance and operational integrity.
• Ability to prioritise and adapt in a dynamic environment.
• Comfort with scheduling tools and transport systems.
• Knowledge of transport legislation, industry regulations, Lean, and CPC is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and support daily transport operations, ensuring workloads, service levels, and productivity targets are achieved safely and effectively.
• Work closely with drivers, operational teams, and customer service colleagues to maintain excellent communication and deliver a positive customer experience.
• Support, coach, and develop team members through regular feedback, training, performance reviews, and development opportunities.
• Plan workforce resources, including shift preparation, holiday management, absence cover, and scheduling to meet operational requirements.
• Monitor operational performance, compliance, fleet availability, and key performance indicators, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Promote and maintain a strong culture of health, safety, wellbeing, quality, and legal compliance across all transport activities.
• Help prepare operational and financial reporting, support audits, and contribute to maintaining operational excellence and readiness.
