Job summary

DHL Supply Chain in Southampton is seeking a Transport Shift Manager to lead daily transport operations. You will manage a dynamic team, ensure efficient, customer-focused service, and drive performance across the network in a fast-paced logistics environment.

This role requires previous transport and fleet management experience, leadership ability, and a hands-on approach to coaching and problem-solving as you ensure safety, compliance, and excellent operational outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Delivery of shift operation with efficient, customer-focused service.
• Manage colleague issues per policies and procedures.
• Direct daily brief/debrief for DHL Drivers and agency crews.
• Ensure driver and fleet legal compliance per standards.
• Induct and train crews; maintain records.
• Manage transport resources for safe operations; conduct inspections.
• Schedule quarterly 1-2-1s with direct reports.
• Manage driver performance using telematics.
• Prepare accident/investigation packs for sign-off.

Shift patterns: Week1 - Monday to Friday 09.00-17.00 & Week2 - Sunday to Thursday 05.00-13.00

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Accountable for the delivery of all aspects of the shift operation ensuring the delivery of efficient & customer focussed service
• Management of colleague issues in a timely manner, in line with people management policies & procedures
• Responsible for full and effective daily brief/debrief for DHL Drivers and agency crews
• Responsible for driver and fleet legal compliance in accordance with DHL Asset Management Centre of Excellence standards
• Ensuring all crews (including agency) are appropriately inducted, trained and familarised with both operations and equipment and accurate records kept
• Managing transport resources to ensure safe & legal operations, enforce walk around inspections, load security and gatehouse checks
• Conduct effective shift briefs and performance dialogues
• To schedule, prepare and conduct quarterly 1-2-1's with all direct reports in line with OMS guidelines (if only OMS in currently on site)
• Manage Driver performance/behaviours through Telematics to identify any major discrepanies and manage through the appropriate processes
• Ensure accident/investigation packs are completed to a high standard in a timely manner in readiness for sign off at the next level
• Management of under performers and acknowledgment of high performance in line with Company policies, procedures and processes

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

• Must have Transport experience with fleet management
• Preferably License holder
• Previous Management experience
• Can lead from the front, winning hearts and minds and providing coaching and mentorship
• Have excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
• Aren't afraid to roll their sleeves up and get stuck in when needed
