Job summary

James Latham is seeking a Transport Planner for a mid-shift role in Wakefield. The successful candidate will oversee daily vehicle manifests and support the Transport Manager with shift tasks to ensure safe, efficient delivery of goods to customers.

You will lead handoffs between loading, dispatch, and stock control, ensuring accuracy in loads, labeling, and stock levels. A strong focus on safety and team development is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience in a similar transport/warehouse role is required.
• Timber/Wood sheet panel knowledge is desirable.
• Numeracy and literacy are essential for stock checks and data entry.
• Counter Balance FLT licence is required.
• MHE handling experience and ability to operate a computer/tablet is necessary.

Responsibilities

Transport Planner Mid Shift

Hours

12:30pm - 10pm Mon/Thurs
2:30pm - 8pm Friday

To work as part of a team within the day to day operations within the transport department by generating and overseeing daily vehicle manifest as assisting the site transport manager with further taskings during your shift.

Ensure tasks are completed safely and efficiently, enabling goods to reach our customers quickly and in excellent condition.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversee manifest generation during your shift
• Ensure vehicle loads are checked correctly once loaded.
• Update stock inventory after stock has been received/dispatched.
• Securely band (if required) and label stock prior to the order being loaded onto the trucks or being placed away into the racking.
• Plan, prepare and check vehicles have been loaded securely and safely according to the manifest.
• Check stock within the warehouse and they have the correct labels for identification.
• Manage and handle all stock with the appropriate care.
• Identifying any missing, lost or damaged materials and immediately notify the supervisor/sales team.
• Perform general warehouse duties which includes housekeeping, security of site and warehouse, fire duties and First Aid (if qualified).
• Assist Operations manager in preparation for stock takes.
• Assist the Transport Manager with people management including:
  • Supervise day to day activities, get to know your team, co-ordinate time off
  • Assist with casework such as managing performance, carrying out investigations, disciplinaries, absence management, etc.
  • Assist with continual development of team members including setting goals, discussing development activities, training colleagues, carrying out appraisals, etc.
• Provide a safe working environment, adhering to Health and Safety procedures and ensuring they are understood and practiced by the team at all times.
• Ensure all workplace hazards are identified, reported (NMO's) and rectify, where safe to do so.
• Ensure yourself and other supervised staff are operating Manual Handling Equipment (Combis/FLT's) in accordance with SWP's.
• To assist with accident investigations (if required) and ensure all injury accidents are recorded in the accident book. Injuries also to be reported to management.
• Ensure racking is correctly used and/or rectify hazards to reduce potential risks (where safe to do so)
• Ensure equipment faults, stock damage, accidents and near-misses are reported immediately.
• Follow safe working procedures and other company policies and procedures.
• Any other duties commensurate with the role
