Job summary

Sunbelt Rentals is seeking a Transport Planner to manage efficient transport routes across multiple depots and a team of up to 10 drivers or 8 vehicles. Reporting to the Regional Transport Manager, you will ensure safety, compliance and high performance in a fast-paced environment.

You will optimise routes, monitor KPIs, and drive improvements in on-time delivery, vehicle productivity, and accident reduction while proactively solving transport challenges across the network.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in transport planning across multiple depots.
• Experience with routing and KPI delivery.
• Knowledge of O-licence regulations and compliance.
• Experience with Paragon or similar software.
• Excellent organisation and resilience under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Lead route review to optimise van/LGV schedules and 3PL usage.
• Deliver Operational Performance to KPI targets.
• Ensure On Time delivery performance and KPIs (JPV, POD, VOR).
• Reduce missed time-slots and late deliveries.
• Brief and de-brief drivers; manage driver communications.
• Resolve transport issues with customers and drivers and coordinate actions.

About The Role

Reporting to the Regional Transport Manager, you'll be responsible for the delivery of effective and efficient transport routes across multiple Sunbelt Rentals depots for a number of drivers and vehicles up to an approximate maximum of 10 drivers or 8 vehicles. You'll play an active role in the safe operations of our transport operation and to ensure our drivers, vehicles and routes operate to the highest levels of safety

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Responsible for route efficiency. Lead review process & compliance to optimise van/LGV schedules and 3PL usage




• Responsible for delivering the Operational Performance to the agreed KPI targets

To succeed as a Transport Planner you will bring the following skill-set and behaviours:

• Excellent organisation skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure.


• The role will cover resources and routes in multiple depots with vehicles and people


• Transport planning in a similar or transferable environment such as a Transport office managing multiple locations, drivers and vehicles with responsibility for routing and route optimisation, Transport compliance and O licence regulations. Someone who has or is working towards Transport Manager CPC would be ideal


• IT skills, a good level of technical proficiency is preferred in both transport and workforce management related systems such as Paragon, Job Watch (Big Change) or Rotec and general Microsoft applications such as Excel or Access, Business Objects


• Excellent geographical knowledge of UK road network


• Personable nature with a “can do” approach to their work


• A good understanding of how to be assertive and to react appropriately depending on the circumstances


• Commercial focus with an understanding of the impact of cost on the Transport operation


• A drive to be proactive. This role requires forward planning and being able to react and thinking quickly


• Resilience. This is about the ability to stay calm when under pressure and continue to make decisions and solve problems on the go.
