Job summary

Project Centre in London is seeking a proactive Transport Planner to join our growing team. You will support transportation planning and development projects, from inception through to delivery, applying GIS, design tools and traffic engineering knowledge.

The role offers exposure to a diverse range of projects and the opportunity to develop technical skills. The successful candidate will have a degree in transport and experience in a transport planning or traffic engineering environment, with

Qualifications

• An undergraduate or postgraduate degree in transport planning or a related field.
• Experience in transport planning or traffic engineering environment.
• Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Support feasibility studies, concept development and development planning projects.
• Analyse data from multiple sources to inform project delivery and recommendations.
• Use GIS and other tools to analyse information and support project development.
• Attend site visits to gain practical experience of transport environments.
• Provide technical support across projects and help resolve complex issues.
• Assist in developing transport solutions that meet client requirements.
• Respond to client enquiries and ensure their needs are understood.
• Prepare project documentation under guidance of Project Managers.
• Keep project files accurate and align with QA processes.
• Support the team and contribute to ongoing development of Project Centre.

About the role

We're looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious Transport Planner to join our growing team.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with experience in transport planning or traffic engineering who wants to develop their technical skills, work on a diverse range of projects and build a career in the transport and planning industry.

You'll play an important role in supporting the delivery of transportation planning and development projects from inception through to completion.

What You'll Be Doing

• Supporting feasibility studies, concept development, designs and development planning projects.
• Analysing and manipulating data from a range of sources to support project delivery and technical recommendations.
• Using GIS and other technical tools to analyse information and support project development.
• Attending site visits and surveys, gaining valuable practical experience of transport and highways environments.
• Providing technical support across projects and contributing to the resolution of complex technical issues.
• Supporting the development of transport and planning solutions that respond to client and stakeholder requirements.
• Responding to client and customer requests and enquiries, helping to ensure their needs are understood and met.
• Preparing project documentation and content under the guidance of Project Managers.
• Maintaining accurate project files and ensuring work complies with our quality assurance processes.
• Supporting the team with wider activities and contributing to the ongoing development of Project Centre.

What You'll Bring

• A degree in a relevant Transport subject.
• Previous experience within a transport planning or traffic engineering environment.
• Knowledge and experience of the transport and planning industry.
• Experience working on projects in accordance with current UK transport and highways policies and standards.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to develop effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Excellent organisation and time management skills, with the ability to manage and prioritise your own workload.
• Strong computer literacy and experience using Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Technical Skills

Experience with some of the following would be beneficial:

• GIS
• AutoCAD
• Transport appraisal and travel planning
• Transportation study techniques
• Traffic and highway legislation
• Active travel scheme design and development
• Transport modelling software such as SATURN, VISUM, VISSIM, TRANSYT, LinSig, TRL Junctions (Picady/Arcady)
• Transport appraisal tools such as TRICS, Tempro and the DfT Connectivity Tool
• Relevant technical and policy standards, such as DMRB, TAG, NPPF
• Experience using InDesign, Canva or similar software would also be useful.
