Job summary

NewCold Melbourne in Corby is seeking a Transport Operator for nights to manage shift briefs, adapt transport plans in real time, and support drivers and customers. You will use the Transport Management System to keep data accurate and ensure schedules meet safety and efficiency targets.

Ideal candidates have GCSEs, experience in transport logistics or admin support, and excellent communication. The role offers a 4 on 4 off night pattern with benefits including enhanced pension and cycle-to-work

Qualifications

• GCSEs or equivalent required; further logistics qualifications are a plus.
• Experience in transport logistics, admin support or customer service in a fast-paced environment is advantageous.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask and prioritise.

Responsibilities

• Give drivers full shift briefings covering tasks, schedules and safety guidelines.
• Adjust transport plans in real time to ensure factory clearance and inbound/outbound deliveries.
• Carry out traffic administration accurately and professionally.
• Review transport schedules in advance and mitigate issues before they affect operations.
• Collaborate with the traffic team to coordinate transport operations and resolve challenges.
• Report vehicle accidents to line management promptly.
• Interact with customers, answer queries and maintain positive relationships.
• Meet weekly/monthly KPIs and escalate issues as needed.
• Use the Transport Management System to keep tracking and reporting accurate.
• Record driver licences and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Record and monitor driver absences for HR planning.

Your role as a Transport Operator (Nights)

Location: Corby site, Curver Way, NN17 5XN.
Salary: Starting from £30,750.00, dependent on experience.
Shift pattern: 4 on 4 off, night shift, 18:30 to 06:30.

Key Responsibilities:

• Give drivers a full briefing before each shift, covering tasks, schedules and safety guidelines.
• Adjust transport plans in real time as new information comes in, so that factory clearance, inbound collections and outbound.deliveries are all managed effectively
• Carry out traffic administration accurately and professionally.
• Review transport schedules in advance and deal with potential issues before they affect the operation.
• Work closely with the wider traffic team to coordinate transport operations and resolve challenges as they arise.
• Report vehicle accidents to line management promptly.
• Deal with customers when needed, answering queries, providing support and building positive working relationships.
• Achieve weekly and monthly KPIs in line with business objectives and customer Service Level Agreements, escalating issues where necessary.
• Use the Transport Management System (TMS) and tracking screens to keep systems accurate and operations efficient.
• Update the system with every live change so that tracking and reporting stay accurate.
• Check that driver licences are genuine and valid, in line with regulatory requirements and company standards.
• Record and monitor driver absences, keeping accurate records for HR and operational planning.

Requirements:

• 5 or more GCSEs or equivalent; further qualifications in logistics or a related field would be an advantage.
• Experience in transport logistics, administrative support or customer service in a fast paced environment would be an advantage.
• Strong attention to detail and organisational skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritise effectively.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to deal professionally with drivers, customers and colleagues.
• Confident using computer systems and software, including Microsoft Office.
• Able to work on your own initiative and as part of a team in a fast paced environment.
• Transport Manager CPC would be desirable.
• Able to work the 4 on 4 off night shift pattern.
