Job description

A large retailer is now looking for a Transport Manager. Reporting to the Distribution Center Manager, you will be responsible for a fleet of 60 vehicles and 60 drivers.

Must have a CPC.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Organising staffing levels to meet business requirements.
2. Organising agency support as necessary.
3. Ensuring legal compliance with regard to road transport and EU drivers hours regulations i.e. tachographs.
4. Completing processing of orders, production of pick lists, dispatch notes, and loading sheets in accordance with depot procedures.
5. Minimising delivery costs through optimized vehicle utilization.
6. Ensuring all vehicle files and service recording is accurate and compliant.
7. Ensuring all drivers and mates are fully inducted into their roles and that training sessions are fully supported, maintaining detailed records and identifying further training/retraining.
8. Ensuring all transport statistics are produced in a timely fashion for internal and external consumption.
9. Acting as the first point of contact for all drivers and mates and ensuring a speedy response and resolution to any issues, referring to the Transport Manager where appropriate.
10. Monitoring and taking appropriate action with regard to absence management.
11. Acting as a role model to the Depot by supporting the Distribution Manager in other tasks as required.

1. You will come from a distribution and transport background, ideally with load planning experience.
2. You will be comfortable with numerical data and be able to efficiently gather and analyze transport information.
3. You will have excellent customer service skills and the ability to work alongside the transport crew and act as the first point of contact to resolve issues.
4. As a skilled problem solver, you will always be thinking ahead, looking for improvements.
5. You will have a proactive and positive approach and step up to support at management level as required.
