Job summary

GXO Logistics is seeking an experienced Transport Operations Manager for our BT site in Haydock. You will lead distribution and trunking operations, ensure SLAs and budgets are met, and drive continuous improvement across the operation.

The role is full-time, Monday to Friday, 08:30–16:30 with some flexibility. You will work to maximise service quality, safety, and efficiency while coordinating with customers and suppliers.

• Proven leadership experience in transport/logistics.
• Strong customer-facing skills in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and data-driven mindset.
• CPC qualification valid for international operations.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage distribution and national trunking operations, ensuring customer SLAs and targets are met.
• Drive growth, efficiency, and continuous improvement with full P&L responsibility and budget control.
• Build strong relationships with customers, BT Fleet, and third-party suppliers for high-quality service.
• Analyze performance, develop improvement plans and business cases, and provide data-driven updates to senior stakeholders.
• Develop high-performing teams while championing Health & Safety and compliance.

Here at GXO we are looking for a Transport Operations Manager to work at our BT site in Haydock. Working in a fast-paced Transport department for our leading high street retailer customer, you will experience a blend of first line operational tasks and hands on project involvement. Ensuring compliance of companies O-Licence obligations are met and ensure all customer expectations are met both internally and externally.

The role is being offered on a full-time, permanent basis. You will be working Monday - Friday, 08:30 16:30, although some flexibility will be required- this is logistics after all!

What you'll do on a typical day:

• Lead and manage distribution and national trunking operations, ensuring customer SLAs, service levels, and operational targets are consistently achieved
• Drive business growth, operational efficiencies, and continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining full P&L responsibility and budget control
• Build strong relationships with customers, BT Fleet, and third-party suppliers, acting as a key operational stakeholder and ensuring high-quality service delivery
• Analyse operational performance, develop improvement plans and business cases, and provide clear, data-driven updates to senior stakeholders
• Develop high-performing, engaged teams while championing Health & Safety, compliance, operational excellence, and GXO's wider supply chain strategy initiatives

What you need to succeed at GXO:

• Proven experience in a leadership role within the transportation or logistics industry
• International CPC holder
• Strong customer facing experience within a fast-paced environment
• Strong knowledge of transportation operations, safety regulations, and legal compliance
• Good Microsoft Office knowledge, in particular Excel and Power BI, with a sound knowledge of transport management systems i.e., Microlise & Tachomaster
• Problem solving skills and the ability to manage challenge
