Job summary

Evri Barnsley is seeking an experienced Transport Operations Manager to lead the Barnsley Hub’s transport operation, ensuring safety, compliance and cost-efficiency.

Reporting to the Transport General Manager, you will develop Transport Shift Managers, monitor KPIs, manage costs and plan resources for peak periods, while maintaining high standards of safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• CPC qualification required and able to be named on the Operator's Licence.
• Experience in transport operations management within logistics or similar.
• Strong knowledge of transport legislation and compliance.
• Proven experience leading operational teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop Transport Shift Managers and their teams.
• Drive transport performance across service, cost, compliance and safety.
• Ensure the operation meets all legal and Operator Licence requirements.
• Monitor KPIs, identify root causes and implement improvement plans.
• Manage operational costs and provide clear performance reporting.
• Use transport data and vehicle telemetry to improve fleet efficiency and driver performance.
• Plan resources and transport capacity against changing and forecasted volumes.
• Develop and deliver robust plans for Peak and other high-volume periods.
• Carry out H&S and quality audits, risk assessments and reviews of safe systems of work.
• Improve transport processes and drive consistent operational standards.
• Conduct regular 1-to-1s, performance reviews and team meetings.
• Build strong relationships with internal teams, customers and external partners.
• Deputise for senior Transport leadership when required.

Salary: £49,295 – £56,261
Contract: Permanent, Full Time,Shift Pattern: 2pm - 10pm

Lead our Barnsley transport operation

We're looking for an experienced Transport Operations Manager to join our Barnsley Hub, leading the delivery of a safe, legally compliant and cost-efficient transport operation.

Working closely with the Transport General Manager, you'll lead and develop our Transport Shift Managers while taking ownership of performance, compliance, service and cost.

This is a key operational leadership role within a fast-paced logistics environment, where you'll use data to drive performance, develop plans around changing volumes and ensure the operation is ready for our busiest periods.

What You'll Be Doing

What We’re Looking For

• CPC National qualification and the ability to be named as a CPC holder on the Operator’s Licence.
• Significant transport operations management experience within logistics, distribution, parcels or a similar fast-paced environment.
• Strong knowledge of transport legislation, compliance and Operator Licence requirements.
• Experience leading and developing high-performing operational teams.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to use data to influence and improve performance.
• Experience managing transport KPIs, operational costs and service levels.
• Strong resource and operational planning capability.
• Good Health & Safety knowledge.
• Confident decision-maker who can operate effectively under pressure.
• Full current UK driving licence.
• Good IT, written and verbal communication skills.

Experience with transport systems such as Isotrak, TMS and Tachomaster would be highly beneficial.
