Job description
Overview

Transport First Line Manager (FLM) – Location: Ferrybridge. Salary: £35,362. Hours: 18:00 - 06:00 (4 on 4 off). This is a fixed term contract for 3 months with the potential to be extended or become permanent.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, manage, and support drivers, promoting engagement and positive culture.
  • Ensure safe, legal, and efficient execution of transport operations in line with network SLAs/KPIs.
  • Review and amend daily transport plans where appropriate.
  • Manage short-term driver absence, relocation of work, and daily issue resolution.
  • Carry out effective daily briefings/debriefings with DHL, agency, and sub-contractor drivers.
  • Ensure driver and fleet compliance with DHL Asset Management Centre of Excellence standards.
  • Oversee pre-shift checks, yard checks, defect processes, and OPS compliance.
  • Manage accident and breakdown processes in line with DHL SOPs.
  • Support driver training, inductions, and qualifications.
  • Act as main point of contact for drivers during shifts.
  • Deputise for the Transport Manager in daily plan/do/review calls when required.
  • Conduct quarterly 1-2-1s with direct reports in line with OMS guidelines.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and sharing best practice across the network.
  • Monitor driver performance and address discrepancies against transport plans.
  • Manage subcontractor briefing/debriefing where required.
Finance & Projects
  • Support change programmes and new initiatives.
  • Monitor operational costs, fuel performance, and accident trends.
  • Support wider transport and network projects.
People Management
  • Manage disciplinary and grievance procedures in line with company policy.
  • Promote a positive culture, supporting employee engagement initiatives.
  • Demonstrate DHL Leadership Attributes.
  • Recruit, select, and liaise with driver agencies for ad-hoc/peak support.

Benefits & Additional Information
  • Salary based on PAYE including night allowance.
  • On top of the Hourly rate, you will accrue Holiday pay (based on ~2 days per month on a 40-hour week). Holidays are not paid in advance to inflate the rate.
  • You are enrolled into an optional Pension scheme that can be opted out; SSP is paid if any sickness after a certain period of working time.
