Base pay range
The Air Ambulance Service provides two very important functions, Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) and The Children’s Air Ambulance (TCAA) which provides paediatric transfers across the UK. Our objective is to save lives, utilising specialist pilots, doctors, and paramedics and with our work centered on saving lives, improving clinical outcomes and being able to react quickly and efficiently to emergencies.

Job Purpose
The Logistics & Transport Team Leader oversees the day-to-day regional transport operation across our Rotor Hub and Blade model, ensuring the effective movement of goods to and from shops, donation points, and external recycling banks. Working closely with the wider Trading team, this role leads a team of drivers and supports operational delivery, vehicle compliance, and route efficiency while maintaining high standards of service and safety.
Key Responsibilities
Logistics Planning & Delivery
- Plan and manage daily vehicle routes and driver workloads to ensure timely servicing of clothing banks, shop stock deliveries, and collections.
- Proactively adapt plans to cover short-notice absences, breakdowns, or volume surges—showing courage and flexibility in decision-making.
- Step in to drive vehicles when required, demonstrating a hands-on, supportive approach.
Team Leadership
- Lead a small team of drivers with compassion and consistency, supporting performance through fair delegation, coaching, and recognition.
- Foster a team culture of professionalism, ownership, and mutual respect.
- Identify training and development needs, delivering local induction and reporting requirements to the Transport Manager.
- Promote safety, wellbeing, and personal responsibility within the driver team.
Fleet & Compliance Oversight
- Ensure vehicles are roadworthy and safe, conducting and logging all necessary pre-use checks.
- Monitor driver hours, behaviour, and telematics data, addressing non-compliance with courage and clarity.
- Ensure all team members follow H&S, manual handling, and vehicle security procedures.
- Escalate vehicle defects or servicing needs in a timely and accurate manner.
Stock Bank & Donation Support
- Coordinate regular collections from clothing banks across the patch, managing overflow risks with proactive communication.
- Log weight data via the appropriate portal and support performance reporting.
- Identify and report any maintenance issues with banks or surrounding locations.
- Liaise with the IT Asset Reuse Manager to collect electrical donations—demonstrating cross-team creativity in balancing workloads.
Retail Support & Collaboration
- Work in partnership with Area Managers and store teams to plan and fulfil retail stock movements efficiently.
- Ensure timely, safe, and professional delivery of shop stock, including furniture and bulky goods, delivering with a customer-first mindset that reflects TAAS values.
- Represent the charity positively when entering shops, offering friendly and respectful support that enhances local morale and the in-store service culture.
- Understand and prioritise deliveries that directly impact sales floor readiness or revenue generation, using initiative and commercial awareness to adapt routes where needed.
- Collaborate with Workflow and Volunteer Team Leaders to align resources with wider shop or donation centre needs.
- Build trusting, respectful relationships with colleagues across Trading—encouraging a joined-up approach to hub operations.
Performance Monitoring & Reporting
- Report against regional transport KPIs weekly, including service rates, bank collections, driver performance, and cost indicators.
- Investigate service complaints or performance concerns with fairness and a focus on resolution.
- Implement preventative actions and communicate learnings to the wider team, promoting a culture of continuous improvement

Essential
- 2+ years’ experience in logistics, transport, or fleet operations
- Proven ability to manage routes, schedules, and vehicle allocation efficiently
- Sound knowledge of transport legislation, driver hour limits, and vehicle safety compliance
- Experience leading or supervising a team, with confidence in feedback and task setting
- Proficiency in using digital tools for reporting, routing, or fleet tracking
- Organised, adaptable, and responsive to operational needs
- Commitment to safety, service, and professionalism
Desirable
- Previous experience in the charity, recycling, or retail logistics sectors
- Understanding of the challenges of transporting second-hand or bulky donations
- Familiarity with stock movement for retail replenishment
- Full, clean driving licence and van-driving experience
Any other information required:
- This role is based at a regional Rotor Hub and involves regular travel across a defined area.
- Flexibility in working patterns may be required to meet operational demands, including occasional early mornings, evenings, or weekends.
The role is subject to a Basic DBS check.
