Job summary

SP Energy Networks is seeking a Transmission Technician to act as the single point of contact for standby diesel generator fleet across transmission substations. You will coordinate maintenance, faults and repairs, while engaging service partners and internal planning teams to ensure reliability and availability.

The role requires strong technical knowledge of diesel generators, LV systems, fault diagnosis and proactive reliability improvements, with a full UK driving licence and safety-focused

Qualifications

  • Relevant technical qualification in electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • Proven experience with diesel generators or similar plant equipment.
  • Experience in fault diagnosis and maintenance delivery.
  • Understanding health and safety requirements in a high-risk environment.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the single point of contact for management of standby diesel generator fleet across transmission substations.
  • Manage generator maintenance, faults and defects to ensure reliability and availability.
  • Coordinate with service partners to schedule planned maintenance, fuel top-ups and reconditioning activities.
  • Attend fortnightly service partner meetings and monthly Substation Lead Engineer reviews.
  • Liaise with Transmission Schedulers to secure SAP access and fitter support when required.
  • Work with Central Planning & Admin to raise and manage maintenance orders for faults and defect resolution.
  • Analyse PS Alerts reports to identify recurring issues, non-runners and trends, developing repair plans.
  • Establish and maintain an inventory of critical spare parts, including LVAC changeover components.
  • Support and upskill fitters and technicians in generator maintenance and fault repairs.
  • Facilitate safe execution of maintenance and repair work, issuing safety documentation within authorised limits.
  • Carry out hands-on maintenance and fault repair activities where required.
